This was especially brutal in the mid 2000s when I graduated college. This was the time when everybody was hitting the job market with a Bachelors and zero experience. I remember the jobs section on Craigs List and how people use to clown job posts, "5-7 years experience bla bla bla " but the salary was entry level.

:dead:
I was there, was a scary discovery after school to realize u know practically nothing and were largely worthless :damn:

Fortunately got into a big company that had training for recent grads on their billing system and that started things off but it was an eye opener

Yup, that period from 2003-2008 where a bachelors was pretty much useless was a crazy time.

Everyone I knew who graduated (myself included) all had to end up taking retail jobs just to pay the bills, eventually one by one, and years having gone by, we moved into different sectors and got out of retail.

Sh*t was crazy, but looking back it's like we all started 10 years behind the previous generations, smh.

This made me recall, I graduated in 99, started work in 2000, we were the last class my company ran a program like that for, ur right, things changed, was that the dot.com bubble burst I think

What I do remember about that time period was that everyone had a bachelors, I mean everybody. It was common to meet someone working at a coffee shop or at Best Buy who had a BA in Business Administration, or some other generic sh*t. It basically rendered the bachelors useless, but companies still wanted you to have one. Made no sense. I don't remember any companies ever having any type of training program by 2006, it was unheard of.

I graduated in 09 with a double major, and it was still true.

You live in DC right?

Go for Sec+. That cert is more valuable out there than A+. Well for entry level positions
Is sec plus difficult?

Ima get my itil cert seem like lots of places asking for it and it helps move into management

I'm currently studying Sec+ and it seems to be straightforward especially compared to A+ and Network+.

I have A+ and Network+ if that says anything

I missed out on some job opportunities just because I didn't have Sec+

Seriously, this shyt just blows my mind. :why:

And on top of that the pay and work conditions is usually garbage. The managers/interviewers act so fukking condescending, like they barely even want to interview me.

I can’t get the job without experience but I can’t get the experience without the job. :francis:
It's employers controlling cost and the number of applicants. If a posting seems unreason, they are letting you know it's a fycked up place to be.

Sometimes employers want experience just to see that you have proven capable of holding down a job. Experience might have nothing to do with the work you will be doing, but more about your professionalism or likelihood of turnover.
Nobody wants to hire a job hopper...

but also keep in mind that the resume is only there to help get you the interview. You can submit a resume for job you don't check all the boxes for and potentially still get the job if you excel at interviews.

Internships are great if you don't have the networking/school name clout to get your foot in the door.

You can also take regular teen jobs and ask for duties that you can "redefine" as being relevant to your job.
Like me for example, I worked at a computer lab in college. but they let me do the time sheet and some other payroll functions for the student workers.
So i was able put it on my resume as accounting experience. If i had gone into IT that same job would have been listed as IT experience.

Companies too cheap to train people.

Want you to magically acquire the skills elsewhere
