Why should we save Detroit?

Detroit was screwed WAY, WAY before this.

You know this right?

And do you disagree with bringing in emergency managers? The city was BROKE son.

The city was in poor financial waters before then... this is what made them actually bankrupt. There are many other cities in America in the same financial situation that didn't go bankrupt.

And the emergency managers just privatize everything. Look at the case of Benton Harbor Michigan ( I know you wont). I'm for any solution that works but this solution obviously has had no positive effect. Even still it totally subverts the Constitution and is contrary to democracy as a whole.

Not saying where I stand here, but sentimental reasons can play into it. It's got a long, rich history as an urban cultural center, plus it helped save the world twice over in WWI and WWII, if I'm not mistaken. Something at least worth considering.

Its not so much the city itself, but what it stands for. Ive long said the D can be saved if proper businessmen take it over. You have a large unemployed population, a port, land etc. Only Black business can save Detroit, Cacs arent interested for obvious reasons.

I one starred this thread cause it's completely ignorant to the history of Detroit...also, I love Detroit (having been there many times)and took this personally.

You do know that Detroit was pretty much the blueprint for the modern Middle Class city in America...right? So if Detroit dies...what does that say about the future of this country?

@Slang Dussain Ali had the most on point post in this thread. Detroit is the epitome of white flight.

When those race riots happened in the city in the 60s, white people fled to the suburbs so fast and in large numbers and left the immediate Detroit metro area to die pretty much. It was better before than after for black people. Also, it was exploited for resources (natural and other) and the death of industry in America led to the demise of the famed auto plants that gave "The Motor City" it's name.

What type of consistency are you talking about?

The motor industry isn't OBLIGATED to employ leagues of people, that include black people as a fraction of that work force.

And those companies FAILED. Blacks got hurt, but so did many others.
