Over a million people live in the Detroit Metro Area and the entire state of Michigan depends on Detroit... what kind of a stupid question is this? Are people in Detroit not Americans?

A lot of people, mostly white people, don't consider Black people to be Americans.

They also have a vested interest in the failure of Detroit to substantiate ideas of Black incompetence/inferiority.

At SOME point there has to be an ROI.

Detroit can contract and be a smaller city, but why try to make it something its not?

Growth can only be artificial for so long.

It has to stand on its own two feet.

You can't FORCE people to spend money there. You can't FORCE people to live there. You can't FORCE businesses to move there.

Not saying where I stand here, but sentimental reasons can play into it. It's got a long, rich history as an urban cultural center, plus it helped save the world twice over in WWI and WWII, if I'm not mistaken. Something at least worth considering.

Detroit in recent history has been one of the blackest cities in America especially when it's come to politics. Its failure would set a poor precedent for smaller predominately black cities like Cleveland, Jackson, Baltimore, etc who also have flagging economies.

Either way, none of this really matters. They just built a fukking Starbucks across the street. Everyone's rent has been creeping up.

Over the next 10-15 years the white folks will come slinking back in, poor folks will have to leave and all of a sudden shyt will be popping again.
