Why should we save Detroit?

Seriously, how bad are things in Detroit?

I always hear it mentioned in the media but i've never been and dont have anyone that can break it down for me? Have all companies/employers basically left the city? People talk like it's a damn 3rd world country with crime and economic disparity.

I one starred this thread cause it's completely ignorant to the history of Detroit...also, I love Detroit (having been there many times)and took this personally.

You do know that Detroit was pretty much the blueprint for the modern Middle Class city in America...right? So if Detroit dies...what does that say about the future of this country?

When those race riots happened in the city in the 60s, white people fled to the suburbs so fast and in large numbers and left the immediate Detroit metro area to die pretty much. It was better before than after for black people. Also, it was exploited for resources (natural and other) and the death of industry in America led to the demise of the famed auto plants that gave "The Motor City" it's name.

Its very clear that detroits problems go beyond black and white relations. Economic malaise and mismanagement have done WAY worse than any sort of white flight could have accounted for.

I've hipped to the game they play. Even in my city which has a large black population. More Black people need to become aware of this game.

Them cac's white flight and then declare the property value is gone as if a nuclear waste is discovered under the ground. Then black people begin parroting that the value is gone, and as they become able, they flee the area too.

But the cac is slick, he then comes back on some, "Lemme buy this property which has no value as a favor to YOU. I'll even give you some change." The black people who still own their land think they hitting a lick and won. They take the money and move into a new white neighborhood, who's residents begin white flight AGAIN. While the cac's who purchased their land tears down everything and builds a community too expensive for black people.
