Okay dumbass join up and have them take your pension, va benefits, tricare etc. You don't do shyt for free and especially not when you literally sign your life away for years. I never said anyone should be doing anything for free, in fact I literally said

we need to take care of our military personnel

But on the flip side, the military is too big and expensive so theres a pretty good chance it will shrink and take benefits along with it. So if the only reason you joined was for 1 benefit that will prob be on the chopping block when push comes to shove, you can't really blame them when the shyt gets taken away

Not to mention, if you have no interest in serving your country and making all the sacrifices necessary to do so meaningfully, college tuition seems like a pretty high fukking price to pay for all the potential shyt you would have to put up with. Would you trade a limb to get your college loans paid off? How about struggling the rest of your life with PTSD? If "the only reason" one joins the military is for "educational opportunities" they are thinking pretty short sightedly. You don't have to literally sign your life away to get an education.

It would be less deplorable if they took tuition assistance away from new recruits. Take it out of the contract and then its on the volunteer to decide if joining is still worth it. But reneging on a pre-existing contract is bullshyt. If service members don't fulfill their contract to the government they fukked...why doesnt the government have to fulfill their end as well?

I'm in the coast guard breh. a life saving pretty safe service. I don't have to worry about getting my arm blown off. I have it easy with this since I can just go active again anyway. The brehs in the marines/army got fukked over hard. And no it isn't the only reason to enlist but it is a big one in this age. this came out of nowhere. I been in for about 3 years and this last few weeks is literally the first time I've ever heard this being on the chopping block. I mean I'll live but you'll be damn if I ever want to re enlist knowing shyt can just be scooped swiftly.

The FIRST fukkING THING my recruiter threw out to me was the college benefits. first thing. they catch you on a promise and kill it and you still are on the hook for years. Its sick.

lots of people join the military because they want the associated benefits. it actually wasn't that bad of a deal until bush started the wars and the us started using our armed forces as world police.

personally i couldn't sign up to be gov property at any point in time, but i do believe the armed forces were good options for some people. especially those who lacked discipline and focus with what they wanted to do with their lives. people who go in at the officer level also get valuable experience and advantages in the civilian world.

this is gonna touch all branches I'm sure. I just got a email from a fellow coast guardsmen that pretty much says after march 13 TA is finito for us. Utter bullshyt since this is literally the only reason I signed up and now I'm pretty much drilling for nothing (for me). I'm not gonna be fooled twice so after my contract is up I'm out. fukk the military brehs. if you are thinking of joining dont. First time I heard of this shyt happening was two weeks ago and now its a reality for all servicement. no real foreshadowing at all. horrible.

No, I'm basically indentured servant for my family.
