Why isn't DJ Quik a bigger deal

Then what the hell were they listening to then cause the only people from the south making noise at that point was Rapalot and Suave house and both of them were STRONGLY influenced by the West Coast

When Quik first came out he had Detroit on LOCK. I came home on leave and all the cars, club and street were banging was Quik is the Name. He had a good run not everybody has to have a Dr Dre type career to be labeled a success

At the time '91-'93 Fayetteville's only radio station was 99.1 and back then the only rap they played was top 40 shyt and any rap that was already crossed over like Tag Team, LL's Mama Said, Will Smith (When he was still The Fresh Prince) Summertime Onyx Slam etc etc. ..Then after Wu Tang, Nas, Biggie came around everybody there wanted to be NYC/Jersey... Went from that to nikkas wanted to be Bone on the 1st 3 albums thru Pac AEOM... til No Limit & Cash Money made it hip to be southern (Which they were the whole time) so nikkas raided the mall/flea market buyin up gold grills

eazy was also around the way 2 fonky album bein made...quik mention eazy multiple times on the album..

the whole time..eazy is behind closed door negotiating contracts with penthouse n quik..eazy bring the contract to the execs..

they panicked..started sendin letters to eazy..cease n desist threats to sue..

they put quik on probation from 92-94..he couldnt do anything...record or nothing..

quik started back fukkin with suge..suge let em coach daz..n help dre behind the scenes..

in return...suge got quik his royalties and back pay n off probation and on top of that safe n sound is the only non death row album executive produce by suge..

quik also has a death row t-shirt in the inlet of the album...


and he has it on in the safe n sound video...

he was suppose to wear it durin the whole video...hence the black pirates hat....

label made em throw on the flannel...thats why the black n gold hat is out of place in the video..

on top of that you will see dante blake in the credits on just about every song..

suge n quik hit a big lick on profile..production and royalty wise..

quik had knocked mary j's album off of billboard n everything..

safe + sound single ends up gettin blackballed...keep in mind u had songs like white lines, i got 5 on it..all songs with drug content that got radio play..

but safe + sound was a problem..he wasnt talkin bout usin it..he was sellin to come up..rags to riches...but nah...at one point all stations had to play disclaimer ..saying they dont condone drug usage..everytime safe + sound came on the air..then a month later..no station was like playin it at all..

2nd ii none gets dropped..signed with death row..quik is on probation again..and suspended...

suge said fukk it..u too good to be sittin on the sidelines..u in house...u saw david blake on the dogg food album..and all of all eyes on me..

soon as quik shook profile..he started gettin work..shaq, tony toni tone, whitney...then clive davis reached out..

el debarge gets fresh out of jail n rehab..he was quiks project...quiks revives his career....

el is on it...2001,,he fell back to his old ways...due to the nikkas he was around..quik and el has music together..aint no way in hell they were together for 6 yrs and didnt put nothing together..

pretty sure arista and interscope shelved it..

give him a production deal but wont let him produce..outside of his friends...it was good money but y.why keep him confined to aranbe n spruce..n elm st... no other producer has been held back like quik was from 91-94..hell def jam let warren g eat..

I honestly hated that record esp because the cheap ass cover but after smoking and listening to it I like it a lot of not better than The Book of David
