His melodies don't go to the next level.

Sound quality is great though

What u mean next level?? Quik can not only rap he can sit in with any band too (Including the one he does his gigs with)...He's jammed with Keith Crouch, El & James DeBarge, and Roger Troutman before he died schooled him on the talkbox/vocorder :ohlawd: :salute:

You know he never really tried to be bigger than he was. He just happened to have a relationship with a lot of big names on the Westcoast but he never wanted to be a big name. He just wanted to make music, his way, on his own. He always kept his best beats for himself.

The way I know that is he basically gave Jay-z a regular ass beat when he really could have gone over the top which would have got him way more attention, since at the time, that would have been his biggest placement post Pac. At that point Jay-z was the most popular rapper....or at least arguably.

I mean his melodies when it comes to classic beats are inconsistent on his projects. Not saying he's not a good musician.

I honestly feel like he didn't have the machine behind him like others did. Cause everyone I would put on to Quik, they say the same shyt, his shyt is dope. That last album- Pet Semetary on some other shyt.

It surely didn't help he started on an Eastcoast label who was more familiar with putting out simple non-gangsta rap eastcoast records than pushing a guy claiming an actual set in his music 3,000 miles away.

Though some of his beats got some 'machine' love.... Heartz Of Man and Addictive come to mind....he was still getting plenty of placements all the way through the 2000s....but sometimes one sound doesn't last forever....

Between giving Jay-z basically the worst beat on TBA and falling out with Dre because he didn't clear the 'Addictive' sample right, he lost his 'machine' privileges really. After that he basically worked with people due to relationships...

And also, from what my understanding, Quik is can be a little diva like & might really be bi-polar or some shyt. So maybe
he was hard to work with.

Yup and there is that as well....

It was just on display last week when he was going off on Twitter about YG and not getting paid for work, he was going to sue, then ended up saying 'oh I shouldn't drink while tweeting and MY BAD YG ANSWER MY DMs'

I'd be surprised if YG and Quik worked together in the future...

Once upon a time Dj Quik was the muthafukkin man out here in Cali....From the Bay to LA and beyond. I witnessed Quik Is The Name go from being a hot "underground" tape that we all had dubbed getting passed around the hood to an album that muthafukkaz was lining up to copp and askin for at every record store. Tonite was blastin outta every whip out here in 91'. Radio wore the shyt out of that and Born N Raised, major video play also, blew up The Box. Same thing with Jus Lyke CPT off the sophmore album.

DJ Quik been putting out music since 1990. Got core fans, at this point he really doesn't need to be a "bigger deal" imo. I'll take a Quik beat/album over the majority of these wack ass nikkaz droppin on the regular. nikka made music for the whip, the backyard Q, and hoe$ to get naked to all while keepin it 100% gangsta for the state of CA alllllllllllll day.

My old mexican roommate loved Quik. :ehh:

Quik has an ear only old school RZA can match.

He was big though in the past. shyt, the Book of David was critically acclaimed a few years ago. He last album...not so much
You didn't like it or the critics ??
I honestly hated that record esp because the cheap ass cover but after smoking and listening to it I like it a lot of not better than The Book of David

Maybe it was the weed :blessed:

because he's in dr. dre's shadow

quik didn't come from n.w.a aka the world's most dangerous group and 1 of the most influential groups of all time
quik never had a chronic type album
quik never had a snoop dogg type of protege
quik never produced an album for an artist like snoop like doggystyle
quik never was fortunate enough to make bankroll off a white cac like eminem

i think that's his biggest downfall as far as mainstream appeal, he's never had that break out star.
