I said in the beginning not everyone has access the XM radio. More people listen to their local radio then XM. They XM stations are :lawd: btw.

Tank (songs for days)
Masha Amborsius (Floetry)
Usher (one of the GOATs)
Jill Scott (Sounds Beautiful live)
Chrisette M ( Sounds Beautiful Live)
Ledisi- (Great Jazzy Voice and more of a Jazz/R&B/soul Fusion artist. )
Toni/Babyface(GOATS)

All are veterans in the game, Of course they have a fan base. What about the new school?
What is New School? New songs with New Artists singing about the same thing? The new songs are there, just being sung by veterans. I'm a old head, so i don't need new artists to release anything because there's is a enough R&B already out there. I just listened to "Songs in the Key of Life" today which imo is the GOAT R&B album. I still listen to "Confessions" which might be still the biggest selling album in the last 10 years and still holds up. Is there some new area in R&B that has not been discovered and we need someone new to discover it? What about The Weeknd or Frank Ocean? Ocean won 2012, Miguel won 2013 and they were both new. Legend struck back and won 2014. Like i said, Luke James is releasing this month, i think next week. The Weeknd still hasn't released his real project so there are new artists out there. There's like 3 or 4 new R&B black dudes on the charts right now that all seem the same to me (Jason Derulo, Jeremiah, August, etc). Trey Songz had the #1 album in the country a few months ago when he released. What does the new school need to hear that isn't already out there especially with the internet? My alumni Homecoming concert this year is Gladys Knight and I going:jawalrus:

Because of lack of radio play and her music doesn't appeal to most people.

Which is sad because She is her own artist/person at the end of day but I see heavy Prince, James Brown, MJ, Stevie Wonder and Outkast ( shyt she pulls from GOATS in other genres aswell) influence in her music. Some people claim to worship these artist but can't recognize when an artist is pulling from the GOATs and creating their own sound and evolving from the what the GOATs have setforth.

She is my favorite contemporary modern artist. I went to her concert this year and it was it like goddamn church for me. I would start a religion over that girl. She's my idol and hero.

The problem is there is no competition.
Who is Miguel's Competition? Not much in mainstream
The Weekend , Frank Ocean and August sounds are more Hip-hip influenced.
Jeremiah is underrated, his first album was pretty good, but heavily Hip-hop/ pop
Trey Songz first albums were pretty nice after he turned Hip-Hop/Pop the music was terrible.

There should been new catorgory for these artist name them "Hip-Hop vocalist"

Plus R&B is evolving and being Fused into other genres (I have no problem with this) so in essence traditional R&B is kinda dying.

Why do they need competition is the music is good? How is R&B dying if all those artists i mentioned are releasing NEW R&B songs and getting traction no matter how old they are?

Because Competition brings out the best in people. Stevie, Chaka, James Brown, Aretha, Minnie, etc where making great music in 70's and beyond but that did not stop the Whitney's, The Mj's, The Princes, The Sade's, The Anita's, The's Patrices, etc from getting their stuff played to the masses and spear heading their times.

Their competition IS MJ, PRINCE, WHITNEY, MARVIN etc, who cares about who's in their age bracket? MJ music from "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" still gets played in the club today. All those singing shows on TV, who do those girls want to be like? WHITNEY. They don't compare Lebron or Kobe to current players. They compare them to the other MJ...

@double0 I agree their competition are the older generations but there should be competition within the new school. Music has always had new school artist trying to compete with their peers.

I think one of the reasons R&B is face down in the mainstream is because folks are not starting in gospel or the black church. Most of the GOATs started in the black church, hell even Elvis started in the black church. "We losing the recipes"
There is no litmus test for new artists.

Another thing, no musicians, I commend the south for hold it down with the HBCU and High School show bands and for fostering and supporting musicianship. The Midwest got a lot of bands as well. Is it enough though?

These vocalist shouldn't sound like random folks off the street, we pay them to sound 10x better. Who lowered the damn bar and when did this happen?

I blame the likes of autotune and 808s being the damn norm on radio, on top of black folk embracing :demonic: shyt fill time, and lack of marriages these days, and especially women's mentalities of having their cake and eating it too.
