Poverty rate is calculated differently from country to country and that in the United States the threshold is much higher than in Jamaica because we are a developed country. In the United States the poverty line is $12,000 a year:

By just going by that poverty line, the poverty rate for Black Americans is near 0%!!!
But since I've been an sadistic muhfukka this weekend lets continue. Let's compare that to Jamaicans, whose annual income per capita was USD $9,199 from 2012.

That would bring the poverty rate of Jamaicans to over 50% by the United States standard, compared to just 25% of African-Americns (in a recession). The average income of Jamaica isn't even above our poverty line with just USD of $9,199!!!
On the other hand the income per capita of African-Americans is $18,428-23,000 more than double that of Jamaicans. Meanwhile if Black America itself were a country and seceded from the union.

Its even sadder considering the population of Jamaica is 10x smaller than African Americans in America.
