Why is Michael Jordan generally considered to be the GOAT? What would you say to persuade me to believe he's the best if I don't think so? đź«

I'll never l understand how anyone who saw both play can say that. MJ is superior.
Prime Bron is faster and stronger than Prime MJ at 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. Nearly just as agile and nearly just as good of a leaper. oh and he has the passing abilities of Magic . and at his peak he looked unstoppable against a League that dwarfs the 80s and 90s NBA in terms of skill and athleticism . The man was a consistent jumpshot away from being a perfect player .

you couldn’t build a more perfect human to play basketball if you tried :yeshrug:

Strength and speed are the basis of your argument? :mjlol:

We've seen Bron be contained when he couldn't get into the paint. We've seen him struggle with his jump shot. We've seen him struggle at the line. We've seen him struggle in big moments.

MJ is the perfect player. There wasn't an effective way to neutralize him. There wasn't a way that you could dictate how he'd play. He'd kill you outside, mid range, off the dribble, at the line, and in the post. As big as Lebron is MJ was still better than him as a back to the basket post scorer. Double him and he'd dish to his shooters. You get terrorized when he's on offense and he's a dog on defense. The man put up 35ppg leading the league in scoring and won DPOY. The only player to do that.

Jordan's defense was huge that year, with advanced stats on his side, as well as the eye test. He finished sixth in Defensive Rating, third in Defensive Win Shares, first in Defensive Box Plus/Minus, first in steals and steals per game and even ranked 14th in blocks per game.

MJ was 1st team all defense 9 times to Lebron's 5.

MJ >>>> and I'm not even sure if Lebron should be above Kobe. They're both great but have flaws in their game that MJ didn't.

Even though the Bulls were torching my Knicks at the time I'll give him the Goat title.

Don't forget Mike was also a major marketing champion, and the NBA is a business.

NIKE: Mars Blackmon it's the Shoes (Michael Jordan) (Spike Lee)

I remember sending my son this poster for his dorm room at Shaw University.

not going back and forth all day. all ill say is : Jordans game was so “perfect”, it got him to *checks notes* the first round before Pippen got there?

Lebron at his best could take over a game, but was more comfortable running the offense and getting the floor open. His entire game is all about making teams pay for sending two so that’s nothing exclusive to Jordan. Ill give Jordan his props though, his midrange was nigh unstoppable and his FTs were clutch and that’s honestly the only offensive concessions im giving Jordan over Bron. I prefer the game within the game of seeing Bron hunt for matchups and see the entire court vs being a straight scoring god (and i think it brons style is more conducive to winning as well).

And Brons no slouch on defense either. He never won DPOY but his all around game to cover most positions has been vital to his teams (and hes going up against guards/wings whom are twice the athletes Jordan faced). shyt even in his old age he was still finding ways to cause chaos on D this last postseason.

It’s not that Jordan won 6 Championships.

Or that he was 6–0 in the Finals with 6 Finals MVPs.

It’s not that he won 10 scoring titles. Or 3 steals titles. Or 5 MVPs.

It’s not that he’s the all-time leader in PPG in the regular season, and in the playoffs.

It wasn’t the 2 3-peats. It wasn’t that he also had multiple first team selections for all-NBA and all-defense. It wasn’t that DPoY, the RoY, or the times he risked his reputation in the Slam Dunk contest, winning 2 out of 3. Or that he consistently took every challenge or defeat and turned it into a “then I took it personal” moment. It wasn’t that he made shaving your head cool, or pioneered having a brand in his name, or made baggy shorts - thankfully - take over as a style.

Jordan was great because he won his 6 Rings while also winning the scoring titles while also winning the steals title (at times) while also winning the MVP (at times - and if not, he took it personal), while also being voted first team defense, while also being All-NBA first team.. you get the picture.

He did it all at the same time.

And *how* he did it almost mattered as much as what he did.

He had near flawless fundamentals honed through years of rigorous discipline and practice, but layered on top of those mechanics an unparalleled panache for improvisation and artistry. There was no situation MJ was unprepared for, because he had either rehearsed it, or was able to adjust on the spot.

The league feared him. The league depended on him. Players and fans revered him. He did all of this in 11 full seasons with Chicago. He did most of this while being told he couldn’t do it. He climbed the NBA mountain, and once he got to the top, no one kicked him off except when he decided to step down.

Wilt’s legend was based on stats.

Russell’s legend was built on winning.

Kreem’s legend was built on accomplishments and having an unstoppable move.

Shaq’s legend is built on dominance.

Kobe’s legend stems from obsessive work ethic.

LeBron’s legend is about longevity and influence.

Jordan’s legend is turning into myth because he had all of the above, at the same time, and it was all based on reality and not hyperbole.

Players wear 23 because of him. Players want their own shoe deal because of him. LeBron throws chalk up before the game because of him, and made Space Jam 2 to follow in his footsteps. After the Last Dance, everyone started to produce their own docu-series. Players have the salaries and endorsements they do because of him. The game went global because of him.

Jordan remains larger than life not only for becoming a brand, but also being the standard that every player since has tried to live up to, emulate, or surpass. No one has yet succeeded.

It’s like what Han Solo was telling Rey and Finn - those stories? All of them? They were all true.

Bron was robbed of DPOY a few times in his career. Should have been the first unanimous MVP and DPOY in 2013 but the media wasn't fukking with him after the Decision. At his peak, he was a better and more versatile defender than Jordan. He wasn't a better scorer but his elite playmaking and IQ made him a greater offensive force.

Biggest difference between Jordan and all of these other tier 1 ATGs is that Jordan got to play in the 1990s :yeshrug:

I love Bron, but, look at this bullshyt.

People act like Mike Played 8 seasons before Pip came

Mike had two full years and a broken foot shorted 2nd year

Pip got drafted before Mike's 4th year

He was supposed to have 3 rings before he played 190 games in his career? :laff:

Magic won two rings and two FMVPs in his first three seasons. Maybe Magic is just better than MJ then? :mjpls:
