Why hasn't a shooting guard ever been drafted 1st overall in the NBA?

I almost want to say it was realgm but I remember loads of threads and talks. Even down to help could make more money off the brand and so on. It was all just rumor. But they were real rumors. I guess I could compare them to the Scottie pippen for shawn Kemp rumors. Remember those

it usually takes more time for a SG to establish himself and become dominant in the NBA than for a player at a different position
it's less probable that a college SG star is going to be as efficient in the league as a rookie

no, the 2guard position was similar to what the Tight End position was before Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome.

It was that before Jordan and Kobe and its back to that now.

funny that SG is the least regarded position in a league where arguably its greatest player is a SG and its LOGO is of a SG...

Allen Iverson was a POINT GUARD at the Hoyas. Victor Page was the shooting guard of the team. AI entered the draft as a pg, and played as a pg until Larry Brown decided to move him to the shooting guard after 3 years.

in his first couple of years, AI had a big rivalery with Stephon Marbury for the best young pg in the L.

As for the question, there was not shooting guard coming from college that deserve the #1 spot.

Most of the great shooting guards at the college level are undersized or can't create their own shots.

Iverson and Marbury where two promising POINT GAURDS thats why there were compared. They didn't compare AI to Ray Allen or Kerry Kittles.

NO....iverson was a dominant player at the college level who had the ball in his hands at all times, that does not make neccessarily make him a point guard. How are J Kidd and Iverson PGs but play the game at completely opposite ends of the spectrum??

Again positions arent easily defined, their positions are the role that they play within the game for the system the team has set up. I dont understand what is so hard to understand about this? We just group players together cause it makes it easier to have these stupid arguments about who is the best SG or SF.

My dude I'm not making this up. Iverson played PG at G'Town. If he didnt, then tell me who started at PG when AI was there. it's that simple. All PG's don't play alike, so stop bringing up Kidd and GP. Yes everyone knows Ai spent most of his career at the 2. He was drafted as a PG and played PG in college. What is hard for you to understand? Don't forget to include the name of G'Towns starting PG in your reply since you insist it wasnt AI...
