Not with the ease of football(american). 95 billion dollars was bet last year on the NFL and CFB(and I don't even think that takes into account things like FF which is defacto sports gambling).
It's big business and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
There isn't that much competition to help American soccer improve. European football teams have the infrastructure from youth teams to worldwide scouting that allows teams like Udinese to find players from Ghana, Switzerland and many other places. The big mistake MLS made was to structure the game using the blueprint of other major American sports like using the college to pro system, having the college game played with unlimited subs. The best players will always want to play with and against top European teams because that's where the money and top competition is found. Prior to European teams restricting foreigners playing in their teams, the teams could not take advantage of the best talent from places like Brazil or Argentina. Now you have all the best coaches and players in the big European leagues. It's not any different with basketball and the NBA, foreign players obviously would want to play in the league because of the money and competition.
Training. Coaching. Mentoring.
That's how Tim Howard made it into the bigs.

you can't start in middle school or high school and be world class
but again it's common sense if you could give the best athletes in the world the best training
and train them from the same early stages as the best footballers in the world yeah we'd have the edge

World class footballers can't just have individual talent, the best ones play against other top talent from a fairly young age, and thats diffucult to do growing up here
You do realize that futbol reports salaries after tax, right? 5million in the NBA isn't actually 5 million. It's probably 2-3.$2mil? That's close to the minimum pay in the NBA. Over 90 percent of players make more than that
And soccer teams are like 25 deep
Because you can't take over soccer just on sheer athleticism, strength, height and muscle development. You need to be extremely talented and have natural born skill.
Look at the top 5 soccer players of all time, none of them are particularly athletic but they're extremely gifted with their feet. You can't teach that level of skill.
