By your name on here I'm assuming you live in the south. You gotta keep in mind that the Northeast is about 4x more expensive for everything than down south. 250k in NYC, Boston, Philly really isn't rich by any means. Its comfortable, yes, but def not rich.

So why don't we do like the Military does and assign a COLA (cost of living adjustment)? The COLA would allow us to have different tax bracket guideline by representative districts. 150K might be right in one district, 400K might be rich in NYC.

So the magical problem is gone, what's the next thing the rich will bytch about?

Wait what?

:mindblown:

Let me clarify,

From your example, you have kids that are born into a high socio economic class, they have 2 parents, a home and live in neighborhood with great schools.

What happens in these rich neighborhoods that pay high property taxes which in turn fund public education.

You get a school that is top of line,
Has the best teachers, the best administrators, per-pupil spending through the roof.

While on the other side, you have kids born to broken homes, property taxes in the poorer neighborhoods are insufficient to fund education.

So you have kids that need all the resources in school trying to obtain a level playing field being educated at sub standard levels.

Man, those extra dollars paid in taxes are going to research, healthcare, social welfare, etc

While the person pocketing that money will probably spend it on some more bullshyt at wal mart.

.

So we should put the onus on the guy making 130k after taxes to help send someones else's kids to a better public school?

Public schools arent failing because of kids being born into two parent families.

No, they're failing because the governor continues to fail the citizens

Yes, they should have to pay for that.

What's best for the larger of society is what's best

:heh:

So basically all of the responsibility should be placed on the people CrimsonTider consider rich, while everyone else benefits without taking any. That sounds extremely reasonable.

Why is the Teachers Union so opposed to Charter Schools?

That wouldn't be such a bad idea. Its somewhat in place now though as NYC taxes are higher than the rural areas. But yes, qualifying as "rich" should be based on geography and a weighted system rather than an absolute dollar figure.

Isn't that how it works anyway?

It's just not implemented and enforced very well

The teacher union has to fight for their constituents

Kind of off topic, but not really.

Minimum wage should be based on coporations' revenue, not an absolute dollar amount.
