Mike did write some good songs, but let's be real, he didn't even write his biggest song.

Prince wrote his biggest song and others...like who the fukk is Sinead O'Connor w/o the Purple One.

and he could play multiple instruments. Mike is what op and others said, a entertainer(maybe goat after James Brown). Prince is a musician.
What's complex about that ? Michael Jackson music is based on simplicity. Nobody is really looking for Michael Jackson lyrics, its his voice and can dance along to. Why you think he is called the "king of pop" ? Where is Michael Jackson "little red corvette", "when you were mine" etc.

Prince made songs about woman being sexually deviant wonderful. Michael Jackson music is pg compared to prince.

A track like "wanna be startin something"

Is more complex than any prince song musically

Written and composed by mj

edit-honorable mention heartbreak hotel also written and composed by michael jackson

I'd add Jam and They don't really care about us. Those aren't bubble gum songs.

People really forgetting that Prince was literally making so much music at one point that he had 3-4 groups under him that were basically just fronts for his talent ie Shiela E, The Time, Vanity 6, etc. He put out 3 albums under three different groups with all different sounds in the same year. His sheer output and quality is still mindblowing to me.

For example, this track...

Dude wrote the lyrics, programmed the drums, bass line, guitar solo, everything, then let Morris Day make stacks off of it. Prince is literally playing OUT OF HIS fukkING MIND on that guitar solo and took no credit for it.

In terms of singing, dancing, and entertainment MJ was #1. No doubt. As an artist and muscian though, I gotta give it to Prince especially as I get older.

^^^^ all of this. He even had an obscure band with a plain looking white lead singer that had a prince-penned hit song that was jamming

but you're exposing the one flaw in prince's career; he pretty much peaked in the 80's, did VERY WELL in the early 90's....then after that :francis:

now, all of that wasn't his fault - that war with his record label didn't help his cause

with that said though - i bought some of his later projects and they were trash. i mean flat out terrible.

you ever hear the rainbow children? :francis:

all of MJ's projects except for maybe blood on the dance floor were very good and sonically pushed pop music forward

even Invincible spawned the EDM/Dubstep movement as quiet as it's kept:

I hate this thread with a passion. Prince and MJ are both gods.
This true.

But the OP was still talking sideways about Prince which is still crazy to me.

At 30:00 Prince hops of the paino doing a ballad and then goes straight into Erotic City with the craziest solo at the end.

Yup. Mike was still making dope music into the 2000's.

I just don't like people shytting on Prince like he was some average artist. :scust:

from what I saw it was basically because they were contemporaries....but they were the 2 biggest black stars around the same time. I dont remember any two black stars that big at the same time before them. not saying it wasnt but I wouldve been too young or not born yet. Musically they were nothing alike to me and I was a huge fan of both.
Act like Motown never existed brehs :mjlol:

Anybody in here talkin about prince isn’t an entertainer is sheltered or rode the slow bus.

I went to a prince concert in Vegas a few years ago and it is easily the best concert I’ve ever been to.

His Super Bowl performance is one of the best ever. As good if not better than Michael Jackson.

His post Super Bowl performance interview performance was probably better than the super bowl performance.

This performance was amazing. Especially if you know the backstory.

Basically the guy in the purple shirt (old guy, center stage) did an interview complaining about prince missing rehearsals and prince was like

Practice :aicmon:

I got you:ufdup:

At the 3:30 mark he starts to go in. If that shyt ain’t entertaining you must be :dead:

Young boy in the back like :heh:

Dude that was making statements like :sadcam: on the inside

disingenuous and insecure prince fans lieing on Mike to prop up their favorite as usual. that shyt never changes

:russ:

the fact of the matter is Michael himself actually did play several instruments too. i know he had the drums, piano & guitar, the latter of which he was credited as playing on ‘morphine’. there might have been more.

he also wrote almost all of his biggest hits BY HIMSELF. and that includes the lyrics and the several different layers of instruments on the song as well.

he had an unconventional style of producing though, rodney jerkins & wyclef both mentioned how he would come to the studio with an entire song (all the lyrics, every single instrument and their arrangements & queues and every single layer of vocals MEMORIZED and would literally play every piece out to the person playing the instrument off the top of the dome.

pretty much every single producer he ever worked with said he was the most talented [in the studio] that they ever worked with.

prince was a genius. but Michael was a genius and a visionary and literally changed the world thru his creations.

nobody was on Michael Jackson’s level.
