Check out Gary Clark Jr if you never heard heard of him. Most of his praise comes from his hendrixian-like guitar playing but dude actually also has classic R&B/Soul style.

I'm a big fan of Gary. Ridiculous talent. Been wondering when he's putting out a new album. Dappled you for posting his songs in here. Hopefully it lets other people on this site hear his songs.

First time I heard it, I thought it was meant for bar\bat mitzvahs. That horn in the riff is straight fiddler on the roof. Almost Greek, but everything else in the song is not... So used Occams razor. Why would a Haitian nikka use that?

They got blatant with that song, but not so blatant to give it to a white act.

The beat reminds me of the discussion on n the monkees about where the beat falls in white rock vs black soul. I wonder if YouTube has that clip.

As for aloe blacc my whole stance changed after seeing the video. Fantasy black life with black actors..... Produced by white people in real life, with white people in all the instruments in real life in the intercuts. Aloe is the only black face. Huh?

I dont think Derulo is "corny" at all. Its just that we've been conditioned to correlate dark, aggressive sounding beats and lyrics with black music. Thats why R&B even sounds "dark" these days with the trap sound. This is corny to black people because its upbeat and pleasant:

It's corny and awful because it's corny and awful. He has always been this way.

Aloe Blacc makes good music. Even though I wasn't really impressed with his last EP outside of the ones that were released as singles he's still in a different league than that of Derulo. You might not be comparing the two but mentioning them in the same post is eh.

Something slightly related. I was looking for Aloe Blacc related things a few months ago and saw him on the voice or one of those karaoke shows and he was singing a duet with one of the contestants and put ol' boy to shame in that performance.

Found the performance I was talking about. I would personally be embarrassed but most of the people on these shows have awful voices and I rarely see what people find intriguing about them.
