He's very corny. I'll take the likes of Sam Smith and Hozier over him all day, everyday.
His "sound" (which is overall pleasant and non threatening) is deemed corny to black people. We have been conditioned this way. A poster named @Insensitive in another thread JUST told me its lame for black people to listen to Bruno Mars. See? We've been engineered for 400+ years to reject anything "positive" sounding. Thats why we are so drawn to the dark, demonic sounding trap sound.Let me stop you right there. Don't nobody need to be conditioned to think Derulo is corny. That level of analysis for this artist isn't even necessary

I dont think Derulo is "corny" at all. Its just that we've been conditioned to correlate dark, aggressive sounding beats and lyrics with black music. Thats why R&B even sounds "dark" these days with the trap sound. This is corny to black people because its upbeat and pleasant:
And where's that sound at today being made by blacks?
Most black music today widely available is dark, aggressive and promotes a destructive lifestyle to its listeners. @IllmaticDelta

What little I've heard of Jason Derulo's music doesn't even sound like potential R&B/Pop crossover hits, they just sound like straight-up Pop records.
Look at the producers he works with!! At least dudes like Justin Timberlake & Robin Thicke actually work with R&B producers.

Nope. I can't co-sign this. What little I've heard of Jason Derulo's music doesn't even sound like potential R&B/Pop crossover hits, they just sound like straight-up Pop records.

I dont understand what u are saying. My entire point is that J.D music doesnt sound traditionally "black" hence the reason he's shunned by the black cmmunity.
J.D is 10X more "soulfull" a singer than Timberlake and Sam smith.
Those 2 simply have "black" soundscapes that they sing over.
J.D isn't corny, its the ambience of his music thats "corny" to black people
