Depends on the field.
A non-engineering/mathematics/physics major will not be an engineer. Ever.
The medical and legal fields are exactly the same.
Investment banking and Finance fields don't hire a single non-Finance/Econ major that isn't coming from a top school.
Same thing with Accounting and the like.
If you're going into a miscellaneous field, it'll be easier to move around w/ networking.

Well yea I think it's a given that there are barriers to entry to certain professions.

I should have clarified. I'm speaking purely from my experiences in undergrad. In my experience, the high paying professions such as Investment Banking and Management Consulting (at like Bain / McKinsey / BCG) that people in my school sought had no major / concentration requirement.

Yes, everyone should have hard skill but its easier for those with careers to look past it due to the corporate world.
Lol everyone in corporate America doesn't have a degree. That's definitely a misconception. I believe some form of formal education/training is necessary in life. Could be college or just a seminar about starting a business. Also people need to start asking the question "what kind of job will I be able to create with this degree/certification?" Instead of what companies can I apply to. Change your mindset and no type of education seems useless, imo.

No matter what you do, no matter where you go, unless you're inheriting your parents' fortunes... you can't eat unless you put in hard work :yeshrug:

Sad what the economy has reduced itself to. Hard majors just to MANAGE technology instead of producing things. Have to get a 150 IQ just to be middle class without worker unions

Business owners > mentally stressed employee that is on the verge of shooting up the place

No americans are getting paid with STEM majors.
Its the lie that keeps on going.
US has a over abudence of STEM majors and matter of fact companies would rather get cheap foreigns on those H1s and keep them in the role than hire white or black americans in stem fields.

The major focus for most school is getting students ready for test not for life after school
It's not schools job to prepare you for real life though. You are going to school to get a paper that proves you have been formally educated within a certain field based on a particular set of classes. It's up to you to decide how you will use that proof to generate income. Its also up to you to pay for it in a responsible manner.
