White collar jobs are hard to get if you aren't a cac. :hhh: I have a bachelors degree but never worked a white collar office job in my life. I don't have any tats. I grew up in the 90's when even killers didn't have tats. :birdman: I don't have a long rap sheet or any felonies. I can pass a drug test because I quit smoking weed and haven't even had a drink in almost three years. I went on a lot of job interviews for white collar jobs when I graduated from college back in 09-10', but the stuffy passive aggressive closet racist cacs basically laughed in my face. Not to mention most "entry level" office jobs want 2-5 years experience. :why:I went to school for graphic design. But blue collar jobs actually are willing to train you these days. White collar jobs won't train you for shyt. :mindblown:This is key. They want a made man, preferably a cac'd out Stabucks sipping MLB watching Black music black people don't listen to anymore white man. :leostare:

And it seems most white collar environments are white as fukk. And it seems you have to really know and abide by white culture to pass there. Like you can't break a key tenant of white culture... like wearing a jersey, fitted cap or snapback of a team "you're not a fan of". Like when is the last time you met a breh who actually watched baseball or fukking hockey? :skip: You can't express contempt for white racism in a white ass white collar environment. :beli:You can't be like Dave Chappelle barking Wu Tang in a threatening manner at these Office Space crackers saying they couldn't walk around your way in the era you grew up in. I'm also guessing that black men in the white collar world are more likely to be gay because gay black men are seen as much less threatening to cacs.

But all of this is theoretical for me because I always end up in blue collar jobs that are black majority. :pachaha:And not all blue collar jobs are low paying or dead end. :ufdup:But I would like to work in an air conditioned office and sit all day for once. Maybe prove to my folks that going to college wasn't a waste of time or money for me. But college didn't change me into a bougiefied sellout like it was supposed to, I guess. So am I wrong that you have to have an understanding of mayo culture to be a part of the white collar world? :ld:

Obtaining a white collar job is symbolic of accepting mainstream middle/upper middle class ideas of living which includes conformity, blandness, being “safe” and not rocking the boat among others things.

Part of the problem is that you think that you can be your jersey, timbs, and snapback urban self in an environment that sees that as foreign, inferior, and not a “good fit”.

To be successful as a black man in corporate white collar America will require conformity to those ideas. There is a certain amount of divorcing of self that needs to be done to be a “proper fit”.

The question you have to ask yourself is which type of black man are you? Are you the type of black man that is ambitious enough to do whatever it takes, even if it means divesting parts of yourself to conform to middle/upper middle class ideas in order to be successful within white collar America? Or are you the type to have “principles” and have the need to always be able to express your urban version of blackness?

There are some blacks that can juggle both but you appear to not be one of them so you have to make a choice. You can be successful with either path you choose, however, the latter will be ten times as challenging.

Here’s a secret though: most folks that end up being successful are chameleons.

exactly

ive done the corporate thing before and to an extent im doing it now....

its tough....im 6'3 250, and dark skinned

so off top....they already side eyeing

i just be myself....and let trhe chips fall where they may

Resources is one. I use to work at NYU and the few blacks who went there couldn’t get white collar jobs much easier than the black folks who went to CUNY or SUNY schools.

On top of resources cacs usually come from a family background of white collar types so the connections are there.

As a black person the best thing to do if you don’t have those resources is to go to a city school that focuses or has strong connections to white collar positions.

Here in NYC the city school named Baruch is a business school and the blacks that go there often get internships and white collar positions because despite the school being a city school it’s a well respected school.

But the issue with Baruch is despite the low tuition it’s still a majority white and Asian school while all the other colleges that don’t cater to white collar jobs are where all the blacks and Hispanics go :wow:

I've had several 'White Collar' occupations, I just prefer to work with my hands more than JUST my mind. Helps keep me focused that I can actually see my accomplishments happen right before my eyes rather than on a spreadsheet in a meeting.

I've never had an issue getting a position because of my ethnicity.

Your experiences may differ.

Most white collar jobs are a result of hookups. More white men are in positions to hook people up, and obviously, they are hooking up their white friends. You also have white men who see themselves in other white male applicants. They will never look at one of us, and think, “Wow, Tyrone reminds me of myself at that age.”
:pachaha:we would do the same thing tho, im not gonna b like " wow i bet me and timothy have a lot in common".

Only half of us would do this. The other half would pick “the right person for the job” which could be the white guy. We don’t all know how to stay on code, and give each other the chance to succeed like everyone else; not to say unqualified people should get jobs, but most of these jobs don’t require a lot of skill.

I personally believe if it's not Engineering, Technology, or Medicine you should pursue other endeavors especially as black men but I am curious what exactly did you learn in your curriculum and what kind of skills did you gain. I used to post on some forums and there were a bunch of guys absolutely beastly with Photoshop and Illustrator who never stepped foot in a classroom for it

I know cats that can treat medical conditions using web md, build cumputers, code web portals and never stepped foot in a classroom. whats the point of going to college for any of that?

This post reeks of excuses and not taking personality responsibility.

Also here where a certain demographic of black men are taking up employment instead of him possibly lacking in skills or credentials.....

I'm also guessing that black men in the white collar world are more likely to be gay because gay black men are seen as much less threatening to cacs.

Your post reeks of being a cac. :ufdup:College is not for everybody. And most people aren't working in the field that they studied in college. :wtf:Where I'm at, federal government jobs are th backbone of the affluence and white collar jobs. The federal government is not a business that produces profit, so there are thousands of nonessential jobs. The federal gov is hard to get into, but once you're in, you're more likely to drop dead that get fired.

Ya, response was predictable. Have fun being broke and jobless and blaming white people. See where that gets you. There's no way you can say something like every cac and asian got a job and you didn't. I know federal jobs are lit but i was responding to the graphic design post

Worked in the white collar for most of larger part of my life until I branched out on my own. White collar is really hard to get into. Having a degree or even an MBA doesn't mean shyt. You have to network. Someone says lunch you go and chop it up always never pass up networking opportunities. I met one cat and chopped it up with him. This cat introduced me to a crazy amount of people from different governments in the world he was a diplomat!

Also, need to be on top of your stuff to the point, you embarrass people talking about your field. Appearance matters as well just need well well groomed.

I wasn't getting anywhere before even while networking so I changed how much I read. I told myself I am going to read every book I can find in my field. This helped me the most I think. Also made a major wardrobe shift.

People will say they're a lot of c00ns in white collar jobs. Nope, they are just angry talk because theybmadevsomw bullshyt excuse in their head about why they can't go out for what they want. I doubt they have dedicated to any endeavour in their life.

They will also say all brothers in white collar jobs are soft. That is wrong nearly ever breh I know is in white collar jobs. Been to too many tournaments not to notice a pattern.
