if its of any consolation, rick james is on soul train this week on the aspire channel.

must be circa '83 cuz thats what theyve been showing this week.

Them 83 eps were piffified... I especially love the Gap Band/Yarbrough & Peoples, Flash & Furious/Evelyn King and the Midnight Star/Jeffrey Osborne ones... the Rick James one was mis-listed tho- ended up bein the Manhattans.

since they had a 2 hour ep on disco, they need a 2 hour ep on new jack swing music. teddy riley was a force to be reckon with back then. he changed the course of music for minute

Listed are the ones I think could potentially get one... maybe. Matter fact, I think Gil Scott Heron got one last year.

And yeah, I agree on the NJS ep. That was a whole era that actually went thru a time period of later bein' swept under the rug like it didn't happen. Whole late-90s to maybe the mid-2000s, that era got forgotten til people went back and started realizing that shyt ruled for almost 5 years, and had a number of classic records.

There's artists within that era that deserve one too- Guy, Keith Sweat, even Al B.... but for others like Today, Tont Terry, Johnny Kemp, Christopher Williams... you can put them under the umbrella in an ep like this just to cover all that ground in one ball. And you can add people who were superstars in that era (B. Brown) or already had episodes (Kane, Kool Moe Dee). I think it'd be dope.

I said this before and I will say this again,

New Jack Swing saved R&B during the late 80s and people will not admit it.

Yep... and don't get me wrong, there was quality R&B in that time as well, but there was so much cheesy shyt out there as well. The pop formula to get on MTV and break thru on the hot 100 charts was so prevalent... an artist could be #1 on the R&B chart and not even #100 on the Hot 100 unless it was a mega-poppy record. Jam & Lewis were keepin' it funky, LA & Babyface were comin' up... but Teddy Riley and all those '88-'89 groups gave R&B a face again. It was like a new school of artists showing that you didn't have to do what Lionel Richie or Billy Ocean did to make hits.

That, and you had other "old school" artist start doing those kind of records which gave it a bit of credence.

Like these, off top:

bruh, I picked people who have had important careers and yet are unsung, fukk is you talkin' bout? :what:

dont be an idiot.

if you havnt watched the show, then cool. but dont argue people down about it. and while youre at it, watch your mouth.

you only mentioned about a handful of names with a punchers chance of getting an episode. you couldve just left it at that but you want to act an ass.

you even went as far as to list drummers & chit.

and :deadmanny: @ a Souls of Mischief episode

i know right.

i understand its alot of people here that havnt watched the show, but this dude wanted to get all theatrical when i said most of those names have no chance of getting an ep.

i caught the end of it yesterday. they interviewed the homie Milo from "saved by the bell" when he was coming up. i know he was in a bunch of other stuff but i never knew his name.

im still upset that i came in too late to record the furious five joints. they were already on stage. HISTORY.

the gap band shut it down. that entire episode was classic. i recorded all those performances and the soul train line. i think i have that episode recorded already from a couple years ago when soul train was on the bounce channel.

ehh. i dont think tv-one is gonna do one on kool g rap. whenever his name is mentioned(big daddy kane's unsung & supahead's life after) they always just refer to him as if he was just some rapper and quickly moved on. when his name came up on the supahead show, they referred to him as a "young rapper" or some chit. no type of reverence. roxanne shante & biz markie have better chances at getting an episode.

dj quik is at least on the fence. they had him speak on the bone ep. but i wouldnt get my hopes up on that one.

yea. gil-scott heron got one. its a rough watch.

yea youre right. i want to say that new jack swing didnt start getting its props again(aside from the bigger artists) until vh1 soul blew up. especially when they started doing those new jack swing marathons.

christopher williams has an episode of "life after".

K-Rino, would be a lot of history to cover, from being a Houston rap pioneer, SPC, Eminem diss, the early start and the touring, the beef with the local radio station, Z-Ro, Scraface, Screw etc. Doubt it will happen but would be dope.

How about Grandmaster Caz? That would be excellent and educational to a lot of people. Or even Cold Crush in general....
