My Pops Forever RIP
yall rewrite history on here.

brandy had the commercial crowd
monica had the acclaim & the hood

aaliyah was 3rd wheel and not even in the conversation. i know this is a rap board and alot of rap fans like to prop her up because of her beats, especially after death. but this chit is laughable.
Monica always sold more than Aaliyah and had pop hits. The only thing Monica didn't do that Brandy and Aaliyah did was act.

With that said, an Unsung for Monica is warranted even now.

exactly.

and chit, we cant even say that monica didnt act either. remember she had an mtv movie back in the day? it looked like bullchit tho. didnt watch.

yea, monica has become the epitomy of unsung with not-so-r&b people......aka the majority of the board. they make me sick.

All 3 had hood love but by 1996-1997 Aaliyah was bigger than Brandy and Monica. Brandy was slightly bigger than Monica.

i didnt say that they all didnt have hood love. im saying monica had the most, as well as the most critical acclaim. while brandy was the biggest name. aaliyah halfway wasnt even in the conversation. the debate was monica or brandy.

aalyiah was not bigger than them in no '96-97. it may seem that way to you since '97 was aaliyah's biggest year, while brandy & monica didnt have albums out. but that doesnt mean she was bigger than them. lol.

watching now.

oldhead from the chi-lites used to look like a mix between redman & dude with the afro from the "ready to rumble" video game.

LOL@ Monica being bigger than Brandy. Brandy was huge and sold more than both. I was not a Brandy fan at all, but she was whoopin' their asses. If I remember correctly, Monica would be the Unsung one. She was big on the R&B charts but not as big of a crossover as Aaliyah and Brandy.

:what:

i clearly said brandy was the biggest name, like 2 or 3 times.

and homie already told you what it was just a few posts ago. lol @ monica not being crossover when she had HUGE songs like "for you i will", "angel of mine", "the boy is mine", etc. and sold more records than aaliyah.

this aaliyah revisionist movement has to stop.

she was bigger than aaliyah breh. aaliyah didnt become bigger until years later when she died. aalyiah was the 3rd wheel in real-time.
and monica was more acclaimed & respected than both of them.

but yea, in hindsight, she is unsung, with the way history has been re-told.
C'mon now breh, I dont recall Monica being in any movies like that. Aalyiah had the timbo, missy, and R Kelly connects too, and she was set to be in the Matrix :camby:

Sidenote the Chi-Lites episode was dope

none of this stuff you listed has anything to do with anything.

movies arent a requirement. and monica had her own movie, btw. and for the record, by the time aaliyah started doing movies, they werent even in the same lane anymore. monica & brandy's music had matured away from that demo. aaliyah was the only one making cheesy records like "try again".

those timbo, missy & r.kelly connects are the only thing that aaliyah had going for her musically. and people actually took note of stuff like that back then. and who cares who aaliyah had connects with? monica had JERMAINE DUPRI and others, plus she had more authenticity & way more talent.

the debate was always monica vs brandy. you never heard no broads chime in voting for aaliyah. maybe they did in detroit, since shes from there. thats about it.

Dope. If he could dance James would have had major trouble holding top bill, he was already giving James run without that talent.

That man could sing though :ohlawd:

i wish they went in more about the elvis situation.

:what: it's obvious you didn't listen to Aalyiah if you didn't think her music was headed a more mature direction. Rock the boat stayed getting play even on quiet storm stations and was/ is a staple in the ballroom clubs. The track below refutes your whole argument.

What was immature about her music in the first place? She had always been on some grown up shyt.
