That wasn't the discussion, the discussion was clearly directed at the WR talent that both QB's had.

Bottom line.

Montana was great before the cavalry came.
The discussion started with Dan being remembered for no SBs - talent on both sides of the ball plays a large factor in that.

No doubt, Montana was great before Rice and Taylor and the rest of the greats on the offensive side of the ball, but those early teams that he won with had great defenses too, cant lose sight of that.

What about in 81 and 84, who were the HOF's on them SB teams from the 49ers offense?

HOFamers and all pro players.

The 49ers had plenty.

LOL @ your willingness to denegrating the 49ers down to the status of the Dolphins just to win an argument on the internet. :heh:

All i`m saying is I didn't bring up the WR's, that was Jadillac.

I had no intentions in going in that direction, if anything me and Reb were discussing the WCO, which is a more fitting thing to be discussing.

Agreed 100% on the defense, the 49ers defenses are another thing that always get over-looked.

I`m not though, you`re completely ignoring the 81 and 84 teams, don't be coy about it. Those teams didn't have the WR talent of Duper/Clayton

The teams with Rice were all time legendary rosters.

No I'm not.

You had a HOF coach whose system was years ahead of every team at the time, and you had all pros up and down the line up of those squads. I was a HUGE Wendell Tyler fan and was amazed at FB's catching the ball out of the backfield with Roger Craig.

Stop denegrating the 49ers down the level of the Dolphins teams Marino was on man. :heh:

Tyler wasn't on that 1981 team. And I`m not denegrating the team, i`m stating facts about the WR corps. That's all i`m speaking to. Did you see me at any point say they were bad teams?

And the whole point of mine was focused on the WR's not the RB's.

Marino never had a RB worth a damn.

Oh no doubt, I'm not gonna act like Clayton and Duper were garbage...they were the shyt back in the day.

That defense gets slept on highly bc outside of Lott there weren't really big name guys but on those 81 and 84 teams but they were legit

And of course the system WCO goes without saying...Montana was the perfect fit for it.

1981 the leading WR were

Dwight Clark, Freddie Solomon and Mike Wilson

In 1984 the leading WR's were

Dwight Clark, Earl Cooper Freddie Solomon
Dwight Clark was an All-Pro caliber WR during these years though....just saying...

A lot of those 49ers teams were misunderstood. Dap to you.

49ers had a lot of talent on defense, like ya said, without the big name guys.

He was on the 84 team.

While everyone else is responding to your "in the playoffs" comment regarding Marino speaking on the difference between the TEAMS.

:comeon:

Only reason WR were even brought up was because of Jadillac tried to tie Montana's winning to the legendary HOF talent around him.

Just had to set that straight that Montana wasn't always blessed with legendary offensive talent.

Either way, Joe > Dan. Case closed.

Hacksaw....shyt...Kevin Fagan type players that had good years.

Shoot...even a young Bill Romanowski who got jerked from an INT he had in the Super Bowl against the Bengals (2nd).

Marino had none of that.
