speaking of this movie, this kid here playing the same drums from the last scene is crazy.
I think I might actually agree with you on that. Too much of the movie's thematics were limited to Andrew's story and his alone. What little side characters there are for his character to play off against are nearly non-existent and aren't along for the ride so we can see it affect them (his girlfriend/ex, his entire family excluding the dad). And because of that, the movie never became bigger than just Andrew's story, which prevented it from becoming great.
i know it's been a while but the thread got bumpedThe girlfriend part was the biggest problem. He asks her out, go on one date, one text message and a breakup all in like 15-20 mins and they act like they've been together for months and had deep relationship. Also he's still misses her like he knows "she's the one" in the end
We only meet his extended family once at dinner and it had no build-up. At this point there was no indication he dislikes his family since he and his dad get along well and the dinner scene plays out like it should be the 2nd or 3rd time we meet the rest of the family. Just a little dinner scene early with some "Yeah I got into this great music school" with him being kinda dismissed or something because we got no backstory and he explodes on them like he's been waiting his whole life with pent up rage.
This movie inspired me to put milk duds in my dads popcorn
No homo.
this movie is fantastic
hit 'em with the "I know it was you "
miles turner hard on hoes
my only complaint is that I desperately want to know to what happens to andrew (his life, career, etc)
Director speaks on it
Q: Where do you think these two go after this movie ends? They had a moment at the end of the film, but I feel these two will always hate each other.
A: I think so. I think it’s definitely a fleeting thing. I think there’s a certain amount of damage that will always have been done. Fletcher will always think he won and Andrew will be a sad, empty shell of a person and will die in his 30s of a drug overdose. I have a very dark view of where it goes.

Did you enjoy the movie? This is one of my favorites of all time, can't believe I slept on this all these years.I was watching this tonight, and this just dawned on me...
Remember that folder that disappeared that basically got Andrew his start as the core drummer? That's the same folder that later shows up at the end of the movie when Fletcher tries to sabotage him. Fletcher stole it!!!

Whiplash makes Birdman look like Iron Man 3Whiplash was my choice for Best Picture in 2014. Although "Birdman" was incredibly shot, in no way was it a more engaging and entertaining movie than "Whiplash". Glad J.K. Simmons won the Oscar, though. He was incredible!
