I was watching this tonight, and this just dawned on me...

Remember that folder that disappeared that basically got Andrew his start as the core drummer? That's the same folder that later shows up at the end of the movie when Fletcher tries to sabotage him. Fletcher stole it!!!

:mindblown::mindblown::mindblown:

In a previous scene he did say if anyone left their folder hanging around he would go crazy...

I loved the ending. The look of horror from the father. Andrew got dehumanized so much and was too wrapped up in seeking Fletcher’s validation that he couldn’t even enjoy the success he ended up having. :mjcry:

Right. So many different ways you can interpret that ending because others have argued it was almost a vindication of the methods Fletcher employed to get him to that level

I thought he was saying fukk fletcher... Fletcher ran him off thinking he got him. Then *in my mind* he saw his dad there who never believed in him, that girl and her man in the crowd who couldn't understand his passion, and the whole world left with that horrible moment.....

Nah fukk that

Went back in there, started when he felt, played what he felt, cued the other guys in, didn't listen to Fletcher's direction and had his pops in awe.. Then finally Fletcher is the one to grab the cymbal when he starts going nuts... "I got you fam" type of moment.. Then he starts taking the direction, slowing it up actually, and cutting it on point..

It's like they both realized what they needed... One needed to let himself free and the other needed to let up a little

I like that summary. With the "pops in awe" bit, lot of people seem to think it was a "what the fukk has my son become" kinda moment, but I felt it how you felt it..."that's my son on stage killing it, now I get it :salute:"

I didn't realise his ex girlfriend was in the audience with her new man too, need to rewatch that scene AGAIN...that scene really is like one of the Rocky training montages, shyt gets you pumped

I think I read somewhere that in the original screenplay, the father ends up having the door closed on him completely during that solo act to signify that while he was in awe of Andrew’s talents, Jim still felt like he was locked away from his own son.

It’s cool how differently the ending can be perceived based on which character’s eyes you’re looking through. Tragic from the father’s POV, and happy in a fukked up way from Andrew’s.
