NYC fans are fickle. NYC rap sucks cause they(fans) turned their backs on it

P calling Jay a bytch was a true statement that fans should've gravitated to and drop kicked Jay
So when I see you new york dudes crying about rap and crying about Jay dissing Harry Belafonte and shunning Black people
after that Barneys shiit, I :lolbron:
That's what y'all get for choosing a hoe ass nikka to represent y'all

Also what does it say about fans in general when they "went apeshyt" for Michael Jackson and think Hov is god for bringing out Michael Jackson, yet clown a child for emulating Michael Jackson?

Instead of going toe to toe with P on the mic,he pulled "stunts"and played the media to his advantage....

Even though P was on the decline, jay wasnt brash enough to actually go on wax without using wack ass subliminal talk...

In saying that,of course it affected P...He knows that you cant beat Jay at the political/media game...You can tell the issue made his blood boil....

The same thing he did to P,he tried to do to dipset as well....

These Jay fans love the fact that actually battling on wax is something Jay does least because he gets exposed by the nikkas he goes against...

They will bring everything else into the equation besides whats actually be talking about..

If you beat Lebron 1-on-1,nikkas will say Lebron wasnt trying even though the nikka was sweating his ass off..

They'll say "it dont matter"because he got rings and gets all the bytches...

They'll say Lebron in the NBA,where you at

Thats how the Jay-z fan operates

Also...if the lack of information and product being put out by artists had consumers and listeners talking about shyt more, and for a longer period, back in 2001, why didn't 2Pac shytting on the Mobb in 1996 have an effect on the Mobb???? That was 5 years earlier, the internet was much less accessible AND Pac was a much bigger artist in 1996 than Jay was in 2001. None of ya'll nikkas is answering that question...because you can't.

I don't know if anyone else addressed this, but I'll answer it for you...the reason is because hip-hop media (the source, hot 97, etc.) at that time was based on the east coast, so of course they swept it under the rug when pac, a west coast artist, dissed the mobb..even though they were "journalists", most of them were (not so) secretly rooting for the mobb to strike back, but pac died soon after that so they got a pass for not launching a full out assault on pac..and just like takeover, the fans focused the battle on the two bigger stars, i.e. pac & biggie. mobb deep ultimately played second fiddle in both disses

in the instance of jay v. p, it was east v. east and jay was the people's champ. this is why the two instances got much different reactions, especially from new yorkers

as an aside, kids at my school were craking on each other by saying "that's why you got sickle cell!", so the pac diss still carried substantial weight all the way to Ohio

Yet nobody is saying he beat P because of the pic though. It was the actual bars in Takeover that killed him, seeing as though unlike Nas with Ether, P's response was nowhere near Takeover level.

Had P responded with a "Drop A Gem On Em" level response, he would've redeemed himself, but unfortunately what we got was something lazy and uninspired.

Honestly it boils down to rappers gettin caught up in image and actin.

Truth be told some of you dudes gotta stop pretendin that this shyt didn't hurt the Mobb. Back then when rappers were playin up their gangsta image 24/7 a stunt like this was deadly. When you listened to Mobb Deep's albums and you saw Hav and P in interviews and shyt you just had this image of these gully ass nikkas who been through it all. So when Jay unleashed that picture of ballerina P it's like nikkas findin out there's no Santa Claus.

When it happened you're not thinkin "Oh wait a minute he was dressed as Michael Jackson and I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for all this". All you're thinkin is that there's P - the dude behind shook ones - as a sweet ass lil boy dancin wit shiny slippers on. And the rest is jokes, period.

No matter how you try and spin it, Jay got him.

I can't believe Mobb fans are trying to downplay this. How you downplay this line when its on Takeover? :what: Literally everyone was talking about that record and this was one of the main reasons. P is still getting asked about this shyt in interviews.

You talkin bout image. But Prodigy had been robbed a year prior and it was public knowledge.

Ether pretty much negates this entire argument. Jay was much hotter than Nas at the time.

It DEFINITELY affected the perception of Prodigy no don't, but not to this spectacular fashion that posters are making it out to be. It was more a combination of Jay's status at the time, him debuting Takeover at Summerjam (remember this was the FIRST performance of the song) plus the shock of the pictures, PLUS Prodigy's own falling off, which cannot he swept under the rug. People like to say Nas was falling off, but that dude was coming off TWO platinum albums in one year, I Am's first week outsold Vol.3's in 99 and was nominated for a Grammy. Prodigy was TRULY the "fell from top 10 to not even mentioned at all" rapper at this time period, the rumors of him getting his ass whooped, robbed, and extorted were bubbling as well. On top of that Nas turned around AFTER Ether and dissed the fukk outta him and added to the robbery rumors ("How many times Jungle had to bust his gun to get your weak chain back?") Prodigy would've had to come back with the MOTHER of ALL diss tracks to get him out from under that grave........ And he dropped Burn:scusthov:

being "hotter"and on the decline isnt the same when we talking lyrics...

P wasnt capable of putting out an ether type record based off the shyt he was releasing up to that point...

Nas was basically chilling,so that couldnt be said

exactly @ the bolded.

people don't want to acknowledge this. they want to act like mobb deep was still droppin stuff like infamous.

niccas wasn't even checking for mobb deep all like that anymore by 2001. like I said earlier, they were semi-old school and rap wasn't stagnant like it is today. we kept chit moving back then, cuz when somebody fell off, there was a ton of other hot chit coming out. we aint have time to coddle the old rappers like we do now.

Murda Muzik, the most recent Mobb Deep album at the time, was also their most commercially successfull

Prodigy had just released his solo debut to decent reviews and sales

If you looked closely, you could see Mobb Deep slipping a bit quality-wise. But they were still getting the benefit of the doubt until the next full-length. And commercially, they were as big as they had ever been.

After Jay dissed them and P didn't come back with anything remotely inspiring, THAT was the tipping point. The diss from Nas, sub-par album (Infamy), etc. were the finishing touches.

Summer Jam had an huge impact on Prodigy, the majority went from looking at him as a real dude to a joke. In hindsight that picture and the reaction to it showed that most people really think rappers are thuggin' from the womb, as silly as that sounds :yeshrug:
