What did Prodigy have to explain? It was a pic of Prodigy before he even was a teenager at his grandmother's dance studio. Jay came with that childish shyt but it really had no effect on Pee. As usual Jay stans ate it up and acted like it was some type of career ending exposal. Pee's downfall after that was all due to his steady decline in quality raps.
You would be foolish to believe that it didn't help his downfall. Dudes was laughing about that for months.

:snoop: dude sit down. Baby Pee in his grannys dance studio emulating the biggest star on Earth didn't do anything but get Jay stans dikk hard. I thought it was corny then and I think it's even cornier now. If those was pics of a teenage Pee, maybe Jay had something.
Yet and still only 5 years after these pics, dude was superthug. The reason the pics carried weight because Prodigy is arguably the toughest talkin rapper in the history of rap.

this is spot on.. people trying to rationalize what age P was or that all kids his age wanted to be like mike is irrelavent. the pic was in such contrast to mobb's image, that all those finer points didn't matter. i'm not trying to romanticize "back in the days", but your image/background were everything back then and this definitely helped damage people's perceptions of P and the mobb.
Right and I always was a Mobb Deep fan. Even after the incident, I still copped Infamy. But the vibe and aura of Mobb just wasn't the same anymore. Added to the robbery accusations turning out to be true (Not saying anyone is exempt from robbery. Being from the streets, you know ANYONE, including the hardest nikkas can get touched. But being a glutton for that is a whole different story) I just couldn't take them seriously after that. People also forget, it was originally looked at as Jay vs Prodigy. Yes, Jay and Nas were dropping subliminals at each other years prior and Nas was mention at the end of the 2nd verse when Jay premiered Takeover at Summer Jam and Nas initially responded over the Paid In Full beat, but that summer it was still looked at as a Jay vs Mobb battle. Nas was at his lowest point, even lower then P. I think Jay was overzealous and tried to finish BOTH of them off in one clean sweep. He ALMOST did, but we all knew what happened that fall/winter.

It hurt him...I was like 17-18 and and remember when this happened. When I listened to Prodigy...his whole credibility to me was gone...

The pics, then Jay strangling them on Takeover, followed by their next release which was some kind of love song? Mobb Deep was NEVER the same.

None of yall dudes claiming this corny Jr. High School stunt Jay pulled was super devastating have yet to answer why Pac dissing them, when he was much bigger than Jay was in 2001, didn't effect them. The basis of yall whole argument is that it hurt because Mobb was ALREADY in decline. That's my whole point. Jay shyt did very little to the Mobb. They were already in decline. And this argument that in 2001 the hip hop audience wasn't forgiving is bullshyt. This wasn't the mid 90's. The landscape of rap changed VERY significantly by 2001. Jay showing baby pics is something dudes woulda laughed at for a week and forgot about if the Mobb woulda came back with quality music, which they didn't.

Exactly. All these dudes claiming Jay shyt was ether AND than naming every real reason the Mobb was declining. The robbery incidents and the Star interview had much more effect. But again, the main reason was P's sharp decline in quality verses. Jay just did some corny high school shyt that, as usual, Jay made his minions believe had some type of monumental effect.

Pretty much. People forget that by 2001, most commercial east coast dudes were on that Puffy shyt with the million dollar videos with model hoes, chains, and Bentleys. Mobb Deep seemed out of place in that scene and event the likes of DMX was on the massive decline. Even I thought that Nas was done for, but that Stillmatic Freestyle was :whew: and the rest is history. Jay merely took advantage of QB slacking and tried to finish them off.
