Pee's decline in lyrics actually could be marked back to Murda Muzik (my fav Mobb album, by the way) which is prior to the Summer Jam incident. It didn't have anything to do with any fan reaction to Jay's Summer Jam theatrics. Pee just got lazy with the pen and pad.

dude sit down. Baby Pee in his grannys dance studio emulating the biggest star on Earth didn't do anything but get Jay stans dikk hard. I thought it was corny then and I think it's even cornier now. If those was pics of a teenage Pee, maybe Jay had something.

it really had no effect on prodigy's career.
and truth be told, mobb deep's time was already pretty much up before this dropped anyway. we were coming off a changing of the guard. mobb deep was semi-old school by this point.
it was a GREAT hip-hop moment tho. and to be real, that performance is the reason why takeover is seen as a classic.
that was a hot-ass summer:
- beans vs kiss
- we were supposed to get rocafella vs ruff ryders, before it turned into state p vs dblock.
- jigga summer jam screen stunt
- cash money breakup
- dj clue tapes and other mixtape djs poppin
- fabolous had chit on smash
- etc etc
- I used to make sure I was by the radio on Friday nights to hear the come-up show, back when that show was actually hot.
- VTV was the hottest rap show on television at the time, on the low.
and then we had philly powerhouse(THE REAL POWERHOUSE) in the fall with the jada/beans controversy.
one of the most fun time periods to be a rap fan, despite the mainstream monopolies beginning to take shape(like Viacom) and all the disappointing LPs that year.

there were stories of prodigy being robbed all the time in 2000 & 2001 that was just the death blow that kill mobb deeps street cred. most of yall came up on rappers caught kissing each other on the lips, rappers dressing like white supremacists & correctional officers so it would be difficult to explain the relevance of street credibility.

Between that and gettin hit in cohoes for crack this nikka took a significant hit and dropped down several tiers in the best mc race.
