This push towards improving standard of living has come at the cost of the real labor market for all skill levels.

The standard of living isn't going to improve while wages decrease or even stay the same for that matter, and the cost of living soars. Wages "growth" has stayed the same for decades and the cost of living increased substantially. Comparing the US to China is beyond silly and they have serious social and economic issues that pale in comparison to what the US is facing.

So why complain about jobs leaving then?

Whats the point of having that discussion?

Mexico just raised their minumum wage to $4.25.
Not 4.25 an hour. 4.25 a DAY. This is what OP says we should emulate, an economy where you can work 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year and make $1,062.50. You can't get a month's rent in parts of the country for that.

You cannot drop legal wages enough to compete with the Mexico's and China's of the world without the rank and file workers deciding that they would be better off robbing cats and selling cocaine.

So Americans just won't work.

Thats fine.

Just say so.

We might as well just accept this.

Americans want the comfortable life, with none of the hard work or willingness to work.

Dope dealing is work. Robbery is work. It's not LEGAL work, but standing on the ave selling dope is as much of a job as standing behind a counter selling burgers. And if it pays better than legal work, then that's what people are going to do. In fact, economically it would be stupid of them to do a job that pays less. Especially when in your fantasy job market, going to jail gets you a better quality of life than working legally for $4-5 dollars a day.

You are advocating working without being able to afford any sort of comfort or security.

Hershey, PA is a factory town.

If those existed today, people would throwing a fit.

Can't have it both ways.

I'm saying that expectations of comfort are over-blown and treated as protected species
