1996 for me. ATL was a special place in the 1990s. Chris Luva Luva (later known as Ludacris) and Poom Daddy on Hot 97, LaFace and SoSoDef, Freaknik (good and bad) and the sheer positive optics with great Black folks moving to ATL and making it a great city.
Besides the hip hop covered well here, it was a great time for Black consciousness starting with Spike Lee's Malcolm X movie and then the 1996 Million Man March. Crime peaked in 92 and began to decline so hope was in the air.
GOAT Black TV sitcoms even though Cosby Show had largely bowed out by then. GOAT Black comedy movies too.
On another note: 1990s was an awesome decade for Sci-Fi; ST:TNG, DS9, and later Voyager, mid-90s had Babylon 5, Stargate SG1, the New Outer Limits and the SciFi channel (before that terrible re-brand). Matrix topped it off in 1998.
