400 degreez had dropped the year prior, and juvie, BG, Wayne, and the entire group all dropped albums in 99. The Box a music channel where viewers called in to request, stayed playing their videos most of the time during that entire summer. their singles were running the airwaves that time.

I was semi famous in my college town. Whopping 21.

Golden Era (93-2003) was in full swing. Not sure what albums came out that year off the top of the dome, but it was a few years after 93 when the era started. So it was like peak 90s style.

No cell phones for the most part. Early Internet if I'm not mistaken.. AND really good weed was coming into existence.

Seriously. Before a certain date there was ONLY yard weed. Regs. shyt I wouldn't even BOTHER to smoke now. Maybe roll as much as I can in a Philly Titan just for kicks. Even then.. I'd do that with mids instead.

The streets was CRAZY in the 90s but it was essentially the crack situation going crazy. Didn't really have straight up gang sets on the East Coast like there is now. If you wanted to be a rah rah dude you could and there were LOTS. But it was drug turf, robbing drug dealers, Big wheels tryna stunt and other big wheels not backing down.

Nowadays they fight opps just CAUSE. No money to be made. Not even cause of interpersonal beef. Just CAUSE.

I could see why people voted 96’ as the best year of the 90’s. 96’ was like the 90’s in high definition. Crime rates were dropping from their peak in 91’-93’, the economy was getting better by the day, people were more laidback and less angry/crazy then some previous years, video games were better than the primitive 8 bit era, the world wasn’t captivated by the internet yet, the sound quality and production values of music had vastly improved (a lot of rap from 93-95’ sounds like it was recorded in a basement in Hell, in a good way), too bad 96’ was the last year of the golden era in rap, the culture was less dark and nihilistic (from 93-95’ it seems that everything was overly serious and filmed in black and white). In 96’, 90’s optimism finally made sense because things were actually getting better in terms of quality of life.
