Mother confronts Dairy Queen manager after daughter sent home early from work

190523-dairy-queen-fight.png

HOMESTEAD, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are investigating after a fight at a Dairy Queen in Homestead led to several arrests.

Miami-Dade Police responded to a disturbance call at the fast food restaurant, located in the area of Campbell Drive and Southwest 147th Avenue, at around 6 p.m., Tuesday.

Officials said the issue was between store manager Belinda Ahwach and an underage employee.

According to the employee, she and Ahwach are usually kept on different schedules.

However, that was not the case on the day of the altercation.

She said they got into an argument during her shift on whether her break should be 45 minutes or less than that.

“I told her that I’m not going back on break because I did my break already,” the employee said. “That’s all I said. She came around and she was like, ‘Oh, you gotta go home.’ So I’m thinking I’m just going home cause she probably got mad or something. I’m on the phone with my mom at the time. My mom said she was coming.”

“When I came, I approached Mrs. B and asked her, ‘What’s the problem? What did my daughter do to you to have a problem?'” Alicia Hodge said.

Surveillance video captured the moment Hodge confronted the store manager.

She’s seen reaching over the counter during the altercation.

“I flipped her glasses,” Hodge said. “She threw whatever the display was that was on the counter. She threw that at me.”

After the exchange, Ahwach could be seen on surveillance grabbing hot oil from the fryer.

She then follows the mother and daughter outside and tosses it in their direction.

Almost immediately after, fists start flying between all three of them and a teenage relative of the employee joins in.

When police arrived to the scene, they arrested all four involved.

Hodge, the employee and relative were charged with simple battery.

Ahwach was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

The two teens haven’t been identified due to their age.

Dairy Queen released a statement that said both the employee and manager have been terminated.

VIRAL VIDEO SHOWS FLORIDA MAN BATHING IN WENDY'S KITCHEN SINK FULL OF SUDS

Officials were sent to inspect a Florida branch of Wendy's on Wednesday after a video emerged online showing an employee bathing in a sud-filled sink at the restaurant.

A video of the incident shows a young, barefoot man wearing only shorts climbing into an industrial kitchen sink filled with soapy water at the Wendy’s at 6477 Highway 90 West, in Milton, Santa Rosa County.

The video, which appears to have been shot on Snapchat, was shared on Facebook Tuesday alongside the caption: “I don’t suggest anyone eating at the Milton Wendy’s again" and vomit face emoji. The footage was shared over 10,000 times and attracted almost 2,000 comments. The person who shared the video does not appear to be the individual who filmed it.

The person filming the video appears to say: “Oh sh*t. Take a bath, take a bath.”

“Oh my God, there’s water going everywhere,” another person says off camera.

Asked how the water feels, the soapy man replies: “It’s warm.”

At one point the camera pans out, showing at least two other Wendy’s employees filming the incident.

Mike Johnson, marketing director at Wendy's franchise owner Carlisle, said in a statement sent to the Pensacola News Journal: "We are taking this incident seriously and it is obviously totally unacceptable. This was a prank by a person who no longer works at this restaurant, and who clearly did not use good judgment.

“We are taking this opportunity to reinforce our very strict quality procedures with our restaurant team."

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation said, in a statement seen by CBS-affiliate WTSP: “DBPR’s Division of Hotels and Restaurants has received multiple consumer complaints regarding the Wendy’s Restaurant in Milton over the last 24 hours after the viral video was posted on social media. Those complaints sparked an immediate inspection of the establishment which was conducted this afternoon."
The restaurant passed its inspection according to a report published on Wednesday. The manager of the store was reminded of the importance of active managerial control and of sanitation and safety requirements, the document said.

One unnamed woman who spoke to CBS-affiliate WKRG outside the store on Wednesday said: "Like they're open today. I think you should be closed so you can sanitize everything. Everything needs to be sanitized. You don't know what people have and what they don't have. I'm not saying he’s got anything but you never know."

A man, who also wasn’t identified, told the broadcaster: "Obviously I wouldn't eat there again. There's a lot of sanitary issues there. I believe that’s not behavior that’s acceptable in that industry."

Gov. DeSantis signs ban on child-like sex dolls

Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Possessing, selling or displaying a child-like sex doll will be illegal in Florida under a bill signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis signed the measure Wednesday after it passed the Legislature unanimously earlier this month. The law takes effect Oct. 1.

A legislative analysis of the bill said that child-like sex dolls imported from China, Japan and Hong Kong are becoming increasingly prevalent in the U.S. They are part of what has become a $15 billion sex toy industry, according to the analysis.

The new law makes it a first-degree misdemeanor in Florida to possess, give away, advertise, sell or display the dolls. A second offense would be a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

NAVARRE, Fla. (AP) — Florida authorities say a Louisiana woman beat her wife with a bedpost, apparently upset her spouse put their marijuana through a washing machine.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that 30-year-old Ashley Perkins of Youngsville, Louisiana, was released from jail Thursday after being charged with aggravated battery.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said Perkins and her wife were arguing over missing marijuana when the fight escalated. Investigators say Perkins began hitting her wife with a bedpost around her head, legs and left arm.

Perkins told investigators her wife beat herself with the bedpost. Jail records didn’t list a lawyer or contact information for Perkins.

The couple was in the area visiting relatives.

COCOA, Fla. (AP) — A 26-year-old Florida woman is recovering after being attacked by an alligator while wading in a pond.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials say Nichole A. Tillman or Melbourne was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, which weren't thought to be life-threatening.

Florida Today reports trapper Frank Robb was contracted by the wildlife agency to remove the 8-foot (2.4-meter) gator from the pond.

The incident happened at Fay Lake Wilderness Park in Port St. John. Paramedics quickly responded to the scene and treated Tillman.

Wildlife agency spokesman Chad Weber warns people to look for alligators in or near any body of water. He says gators are more active during the spring and summer.

Natasha Ethel Bagley (Miami-Dade Corrections)

MIAMI (CBS12) — A 42-year-old woman was arrested earlier this month for reportedly attacking a Burger King manager when she didn't get free fries, WFOR reported.

Natasha Bagley and 26-year-old Genesis Peguero came through the drive-thru of the Burger King at 18240 South Dixie Highway on April 2, according to WFOR. The pair asked for free fries, but the employee working the drive-thru said no.

Just minutes later, Bagley and Peguero walked into the restaurant and caused a ruckus, WFOR reported. Peguero then jumped over the counter to the employees only area. When a manager approached her, she demanded that they open the cash register and give her whatever was inside.

According to WFOR, Peguero threatened to hit the manager with a .45 caliber pistol while reaching into her pants pocket. When the manager tried to call police, Peguero slapped the phone away and began physically attacking the manager, hitting her in the face.

At that point, Bagley also jumped over the the counter and also began attacking the manager, WFOR reported. Before fleeing the Burger King, Peguero pushed both cash registers and monitors off the counter, causing them to break.

Peguero went back over the counter to hit the manager again before the pair fled in a black SUV, according to WFOR. Someone was able to take down the license plate number and a records check showed the SUV was registered to Bagley.

Bagley was later found and arrested, but Peguero is still at large, WFOR reported. Bagley was charged with armed burglary with assault or battery, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and armed criminal mischief.

  • Officers said it all started when she was driving and got into an argument with another driver who she said made fun of her. According to the arrest form, the driver of a white Mercedes-Benz shot at Thomas first after Thomas pointed a gun at her and said, "[Expletive], I can kill your ass!"

Officers said Thomas admitted to shooting back at the woman.

The Miami-Dade Police Department's ShotSpotters detected 11 shots were fired during the gun fight near a Papa John's Pizza restaurant at 2537 NW 54 St. The first alert reported eight gun shots and the second alert reported three gun shots.

After the shooting, Thomas' car was heavily damaged. The other woman's Mercedes-Benz only had one bullet hole on the driver's door. Officers said one of Thomas' bullets grazed the woman's left breast, so she called 911 and paramedics took her to a nearby hospital.
