I never knew this was a thing. PC only or any on consoles?

they have mario and sonic olympics games on the switch, that's the closest I've seen. but I'm in the mind of a more serious take like track and field on nes. something fitting for PS5 or series x

And as far as modern world rpg's, I mean games that don't take place in medieval times. Everyone's excited for Elden Rings, Witcher 4, or Elder Scrolls, but I just can't vibe with those games at all. I need something set in a much more modern time. That new Harry Potter game that's going to take place in the late 1800s is really as far back as I'm willing to go.
Agree with this. Part of why Ioved Persona 5 so much

I no longer feel comfortable buying 99% of games on release day. They're almost never finished and quality control is at an all time low. Buying a game on release day is essentially beta testing for most games, and with my backlog, it makes no sense to do so when the game will be a better (complete) game 6 - 8 months after release. HZD Forbidden West will likely be the only game I purchase on day one this year, and thats only because Guerilla Games releases tend to be relatively smooth experiences that play as intended out of the gate.

Once upon a time, games released in a finished state, but with "patches" essentially allowing developers to actually finish the game after its' release and the the "fear of missing out" driving many gamers' purchases -- "I have to get the new toy because everyone else is," -- there is no incentive to release when it's actually ready. For example, look no further than how the GTA Remastered thread started vs how it ended. A fool and his money are easily parted, and gaming companies are making money hand over fist abiding by that mantra.

Koalabama and the Cosmos
  • Tutorials that don't make you feel like a dumb ass
  • Innovation of the 90s and early 2000s
  • Faith in taking chances (new IPs that will turn the wheel)
  • Light hearted gameplay (everything is so damn serious nowadays)
  • No quality control (Too much meme shyt)
  • More open source codes for the modding community
  • Not enough furry animals in gaming (sighs...no koalas in anything)
It just feels like gaming is becoming more of a chore/job than leisure and that scares the hell out of me, especially having a child who is trying to get into gaming.

Games where the developers have a natural appreciation for nature. Sunsets, weather changes, majestic scenery, and so on.

Games that are not RPGs that have massive turning points in the gameplay's storyline. Like the changing/ evolution of antagonist(s) after the 1/3 point or halfway point.

A solid, well explained ending. Should be no less than 25 minutes for many modern games.

Wider variety of games and frequency dropped like the PS2 generation

Blame the soaring costs of gaming development and the urge to be "cinematic" that bankrupted a lot of those 3rd party companies. Games cost more to make than live-action movies nowadays!

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
A lot of sports games.. Like OP said, boxing for one. I really can't believe EA won't make a fight night with generic players. You telling me there's NO money in that? Being the only boxing game worth a damn on the market. With online play and all the microtransactions you can get off that. Dudes having boxing tournaments for belts.. Hell make the famous people the DLC.. At least just have 1 or a few.. But really if there's nobody famous, I still want to play a great boxing game.

College football and basketball. Again.. Make the shyt generic... But coming up as a nobody coordinator at a trash school.. Coaching them up. Getting bigger stadiums, better schools, better jobs, better recruits, then moving up to the big leagues.. Or making your trash school into a 5 star... Madden has heart to it's franchise like that.. Neither does 2k.. Too many damn games and trades make it foolish.

Pretty much agreeing with everything being said. I certainly wouldn't mind some games that are like SSX, Bust A Groove.. maybe Tony Hawk skateboarding..but that are FUN like those were to me. I could also go for tactical military pve co-op action akin to ARMA 3.. but not arma. Even modded I got bored with it for some reason. I have to organize my thoughts on that, because ARMA is good.. I just can't fathom why I got so bored. Moving on, Never played 7 but Ace Combat 3+4 I remember being fun, so id be down for some combat flight sims.
Don't get me started on wanting some GOOD stealth action. I haven't been satisfied with that genre for a long time :mjcry:

I also want to mention The Division. If that could be an RPG (NON LINEAR) style co-op experience that isn't a looter shooter...shiiieeet I'd be good. I could keep going, but now I'm getting irritated.. so I'm done lol

Adrenaline pumping background music. I’m tired of the barely there BGM or the white noise of nature.

Good stories.

Focus on fun factor.

Silliness and humour.

Gaming overall is better than it has ever been and I'm from the NES era.
I regularly come across people who want to brow beat this gen claiming it lacks this that and the other. SOME critiques might be true to an extent, but I find most times people have just grown out of gaming and will do everything possible to avoid admitting it for whatever reason.

To answer the OP, I'd like to see a higher attention to detail.
(I don't need a game to be 4K 120fps. 4K 60fps should be standard and I don't care about ray-tracing.)
That being said, within 4K 60fps minimum parameters, I'd love more than anything to see more destructive environments. Every bullet should leave a hole, dent, etc on every object.
Every wall should be destructible. We should see shell casing on the ground. Cars should show various degrees of damage. I basically want the games we have right now, but with that type of detail. I want devs to stop chasing ray tracing and arbitrary fps numbers and focus on details.
Where are the games today doing details like this:

This is the type of stuff I want to be standard in every game.
I would think at least Sony with their SSD that was praised for it's potential to pull data at lightening speed to give us the ability to see and hear [a million] pebbles would be able to handle the type of things I'm mentioning so I'm not looking for anything necessarily from the technology side; moreso from the dev side taking the time to implement this.

Since Battlefield is now dead:mjcry:
A land, air, ground experience akin to PS3 Warhawk. Idk what Sony is doing sitting on that ip. Nothing like it

I seriously don't understand why Warhawk seem like the b*stard child of Sony. That game alone sold me on the PS3 along with Little Big Planet.

Hell I even bought Starhawk because I wanted Sony to keep focus on that IP, but sighs "power to the gamers" I guess:francis:

High quality AAA arcade games. fukk that GAAS bullshyt.

Where are the Burnouts, the SSXs, Motorstorms????? Wipeouts?? WTF?!

And then.. More games like TLOU 2 that push boundaries and take writing seriously. Where are the games with writing that can make you feel REAL emotion? Where are the Amazing scripts? Why is everything so fukking dude bro? This medium has potential to EASILY be the GOAT but its being massively under utilized.
