He tested job's will to prove that A: satan has no power that is not given to him, and that B: a riteous man's loyalty to god >>>>> fortune and gain and can and should out weigh the losd of allof that.

If god destroys my family so be it; It is his will. i look to the story of job in my darkest times.

:gag:

You shouldn't take ancient Jewish tribal fables as literal bro.

In the end everything worked out for Job though. God was just testing his "will".

to you yeah but to a starving family living in a dessert village that gets raided weekly, it explains why their lives suck and whether or not they will be rewarded for their faith. i knock on religion alot but i understand that people needed these stories to justify their livelihood. its :lolbron: status nowadays

just seems like one of those stories to keep people in line and keep them from thinking about ways to change their situation.

But God knows everything. He knew Job would pass the test. Why take everything from Job to test his faith if he already knew that Job's wouldn't lose his?

I just read the comments in here and its funny how the majority of you cats blaming God for Job's situation and making crazy comments about how evil God is. Satan doing a very good job, when he got people looking at God crazy, when he's the one responsible for all of Job's problems and all the problems existing in this world.

Am I christian....no but i do believe in a higher power and believe that power isnt out for our destruction.

Job basically was a story of free will and having faith in God no matter what happens around you. Dude had integrity and great faith. How many cats today, if they lost their entire family, wealth, status and still remain faithful and true? People nowadays, lose even one of the things I mentioned and its some how God's fault.

:childplease:

Read the story again. Especially chapters 38-42. You will see Job realizes he is dealing with a being mightier than him and basically surrenders to this power. It was not faith or integrity, it was fear and powerlessness that caused Job to :bowdown:

Job 40
5: Look, I am of little account; what can I answer you?
I put my hand over my mouth.
6:I have spoken once, I will not reply;
twice, but I will do so no more.

That's after god spent a couple of chapters berating Job with dikkish megalomaniacal proclamations like:

Job 40
Gird up your loins now, like a man.
I will question you, and you tell me the answers!
8
* Would you refuse to acknowledge my right?
Would you condemn me that you may be justified?
9
Have you an arm like that of God,
or can you thunder with a voice like his?
10
Adorn yourself with grandeur and majesty,
and clothe yourself with glory and splendor.
11
Let loose the fury of your wrath;
look at everyone who is proud and bring them down.
12
Look at everyone who is proud, and humble them.
Tear down the wicked in their place,
13
bury them in the dust together;
in the hidden world imprison them.
14
Then will I too praise you,
for your own right hand can save you.
15
Look at Behemoth,* whom I made along with you,
who feeds on grass like an ox.

After a while Job just gives up.

I think the average dumbass understands the story. Job is rewarded for his faith. God is the ultimate provider, the ultimate taker. God is the source of all glory and suffering. God owes us no explanation for His actions. We may only know His Grace through suffering and all the Sunday school bullshyt.

this doesn't change God's hoe like personality, Satan trolling God or how it would take a seriuosly disturbed person to be able to cut the bonds of his loved ones because they'd be rewarded later.

C'mon fam....really? He recognized who the true Lord of the universe was and it become more clear to him. Job knew just like everyone today knows, all humans have free will. If he wanted he couldve took his wife's advice and cursed God and died but he didnt. And look what happened.....because of his faith, trust in God, he was blessed with more things than what he had before he lost it.

The point is Job :bow: out of fear, desperation and impotence not out of faith.

Maybe it wasn't God's fault, but he did succumb to some very sly psychology from Satan. Sure, Job lived, but his entire family died because of this petty celestial pissing contest between Yahweh & Satan. Were they not people with souls? I think that's what disturbs me the most about this story. We were taught that God cares about each and every one of us, but he was willing to kill Job's mother or child to test Job. Did their lives not matter to him?

So yes, maybe Satan was the primary thing responsible for most of this story. But the question is why was God so dumb to fall for it? God knew what was in Job's heart -- fukk Satan.

I'm not interested in worshipping a god that would kill my family just to prove a point to the devil. That's a bytch move, to say the least. :smh:
