Nope. Still wouldn't work on the national stage.

Do you know what Duverger's Law is?

I personally think they introduce the 15% rule just to placate third party people knowing it'll never happen.

I think I see the disconnect. You're thinking Duverger's law means that even 15% is unattainable. I saw Johnson polling in double digits...and he's not a particularly good candidate to be nice; so I would argue that I do think it's possible. From there, I'm not really sure how else you're applying it; maybe that the two parties won't see the need to include a fringe idea when they're certain to be the only two parties. I'd point to Bernie's Universal Healthcare as a "fringe" policy that was normalized simply by being introduced to a large segment of the population and forcing a different discourse though.

I'm saying that based on what we have, I just dont see it being possible and even if it were possible, voting third parties just helps the opposing team even more. They win when one side is fractured.

IF there is an actual third party, its in liberals best interest that it be right wingers to fracture their votes. Third party left wingers are disastrous politics.

And Bernie hasn't done dikk about universal healthcare. Whatever he did can be traced to Hillary in the 90s. Lets not give him credit for piggy-backing on the HARD FOUGHT GAINS OBAMA DID. That shyt wasn't easy and a lot of republicans lost their seats because of it. Just making it out to be some easy-peasy off handed shyt is disrespectful and frankly deceitful.

Basically.

I don't understand why so many supposed left-leaning individuals keep trying to split the vote.

It hurts actual progressivism more than it diminishes right-wing extremism.

Dems are in the minority at every level of government and their policies keep moving further and further to the right. Voting for them isn't helping progressivism either.

they think this is Europe. Its not.

This is a right wing country. Most of our laws and sense of policy is right wing. From gun rights down to the lack of a robust social welfare state. Our entire outlook on politics is right wing influenced.

So when disaffected liberals/left leaning people swing too far left, thats why I keep trying to remind them that wanting something is different from GETTING SOMETHING.

Its why Obama could only pass a reformed version of Romney Care. Its why theres no gun reform. Its why theres a Roe-vs-Wade fight every single 4 years. Its why theres a possibility gay marriage could actually be overturned. Its literally why every single progressive policy never stands in the long term. Conservatives CONTINUE to attack every decent thing the government has ever gotten right.

And it is impossible for the country to change. I mean there aren't any amendments we can point to that shows this country changing. . . oh wait. lol

Perfect should not be the enemy of good. Splitting the vote if you don't get everything you want is foolish.

"Better" is a solid operational principle.

The idea that Dems are simply "better" than Rethugs--given how bad Rethugs are--isn't a flaw.

No one said perfect. But a shade better than evil and diabolical isn't going to get people to the polls.
