Voting for a 3rd party in a general election helps the candidate you prefer the least, because your vote won't help the person most likely to be elected.
If you can't understand the concept of voting for a undesirable candidate to keep a worse candidate from being elected, this conversation is over.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work like that. Said “better” candidate has to have more than a main campaign message that basically boils down to “I’m not my opponent.”
Kerry tried that with Bush in 2004 and lost. Hilary was banking on Trump being a such a deranged loon that people would automatically vote for her. So confident she was about victory that she barely—if at all—campaigned in key swing states she needed to win. She also went with the “I’m not my opponent” message.
Like Kerry, she was the better candidate. And like Kerry, she lost. In Hilary’s case, she didn’t lose to an incumbent; she lost to a neophyte who has racist, sexist, and fascist views that was caught on tape talking about grabbing women by their private part.
The onus is on the “better” candidate to ensure victory. She should’ve campaigned more in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. She fukked up. That’s on her.

Yall are coming at it missing the context that the majority of voices saying "go ahead and protest vote" included the caveat "if you're in a non-swing state." Whether I vote Hillary or third party in a deeply blue state, Hillary is winning the state. So it's not harmful and doesn't impact who wins. I'm not sure I've seen anyone argue for protest voting in swing states in this thread, though I haven't read every post in this thread. Most of us didn't ever condone the Jimmy Dore style approach, it fell mainly to the Sam Seder progressive voting philosophy.
