Jujutsu Kaisen Manga's Circulation Jumps 590% to 50 Million Copies Since Anime's Debut

Shueisha reported on Monday that the initial run of the upcoming 16th volume of Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisenmanga will have 2 million copies. Shueisha also announced that the manga's total circulation rose to over 50 million, including print and digital copies, as well as copies not yet sold. The 16th volume will ship on Friday.

The manga's circulation rose about 590% since the premiere of its anime adaptation last October. The manga's 15th compiled volume alone had 1.5 million copies in its initial run — the first time that any of the manga's volumes has had more than 1 million copies in its initial run. The volume shipped on February 4.

The manga had:

• 8.5 million in early October
• 10 million on October 29
• 15 million on December 16
• 20 million on January 13
• 25 million on January 26
• 30 million on February 9
• 35 million on March 4
• 40 million on March 31
• 45 million on April 21

In addition, Shueisha revealed that the manga's 18th volume (out on December 25) and 19th volume (out on April 4, 2022) will have an edition that will bundle merchandise. The 18th volume will bundle an acrylic stand calendar with 32 character charms. The 19th volume will bundle five objects from the manga's Shibuya Incident arc, and a series of "on-the-scene photos" taken from panels of the manga.

Kimetsu no Yaiba Gotouge Koyoharu Gashū -Ikuseisо̄-, the first Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba art book (pictured right), ranked #1 on the general book ranking chart with 470,183 copies sold. Kimetsu no YaibaNuriehon -Ao- (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Coloring Book: Blue) was #5 with 356,302 copies sold, and Kimetsu no Yaiba Nuriehon -Aka- (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Coloring Book: Red) was #7 with 319,557 copies sold. The television anime's third official characters book ranked #11 with 260,596 copies. Thanks to these and other books, Gotouge was the top author on the general book ranking chart with 1,146,042 copies.

Top-Selling Manga in Japan by Volume: 2021 (First Half)

The 23rd and final volume of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga is the first manga volume to sell over 4 million copies in Oricon's half-year sales ranking charts since Oricon began posting rankings in 2008. The first volume in the series is the first manga volume to sell a cumulative total of over 5 million copies since 2008. As of May, 19 volumes in the series have each sold over 5 million copies.

Shueisha ran full-page-spread ads in Japan's top five newspapers (Yomiuri, Asahi, Mainichi, Sankei, Nihon Keizai) on the evening before and the morning of the final Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga volume's launch day.

They were #3 and #4, respectively, on the literary novel chart. Oshiri Tantei: Oshiri Tantei no Koi!? (Butt Detective: Butt Detective's Love!?) was #20 on the general book sales ranking chart with 170,547 copies.

Sword Art Online 25 Unital Ring IV was also #7 on the bunko-format sales ranking chart, and Sword Art OnlineProgessive 007 was #25 with 92,751. The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya was #12, The Apothecary Diaries 10 was #18 with 110,245 copies, and Classroom of the Elite's fourth 2-Nensei-Hen (Second-Year Student Arc) volume was #19 with 109,267 copies.
