One Piece: I don't care. Dropped it ages ago. Alabastra arc is still one of the best pieces of fiction I've ever witnessed, all media minus Zoro running around lost)

but all that feeling awkward cause everybody likes something and you don't and then complaining about it is for the bytchmade birds.
You dropped it around Sabaody, right? :patrice:

Just watched this bizarre OVA called Alien 9. About elementary kids who are trained to fight aliens without any explanation why. They are given monster pets who follow them everywhere - even watching them sleep, and are attached to their heads during combat. It's as creepy as it sounds.

One of the kids is a nervous wreck exactly like Shinji Ikari. Constantly crying, trying to run away from responsibilities. And like Shinji it's easy to understand why a child would be afraid of fighting against some random monsters that can kill them at any moment. Her anxiety and mental breakdowns get worse and worse with every alien encounter.

It never tells you what the aliens are, where they are from, why children are being farmed to fight them and seems entirely open for interpretation. Have a theory that it's an elaborate allegory about child abuse, child neglect, peer pressure, puberty as supported by some of the dream symbolism. Disturbing if correct.

There are heavy NGE parallels, FLCL vibes. Predates what Madoka Magika would later do by a decade. Thought it was really great for such an unknown OVA series.
Sounds like Now & Then, Here & There which also did a good job wit that story

Was a pretty lowkey ova, idk how i ended up watching it but i def went in with low expectations

By the time the credits rolled i was :wow::mjcry:

The Maria episode sold me on the series. Beautiful episode :mjcry:
It's amazing how a solid main character can take an average show and boost it to top tier. Outside of Catarina most of the other elements of the show are average but she's the spice that flavors everything. This is arguable among the better harem shows I've ever seen just by having a good main which most don't.

I appreciated Now & Then, Here & There for showing how a isekai adventure would go if a kid didn't have plot armor in a dictatorship. Shuu really thought he was going to be a hero in a world where the weak are killed indiscriminately. Optimistic shonen are cool and all...but the other side can be just as good too.

On the topic of horrific kid action tragedies, Requiem of the Phantom was similar to Gunslinger Girls. Good until it wasn't.

:mjlol: way way back when I was writing fanfics, I had a story where Heero found this cabin out in the middle of nowhere. Like a grassy meadow.

Relena was in said cabin, and there was nothing else and nobody as far out as he could search. Just the two of them in this quiet, peaceful place.

He stayed there with her for what felt like forever......

Then he realized that he had died on the battlefield, and this was his Hell. No fighting, no war, no outer space, no Gundams, no nothing.

Just him..... and Relena.

Heero: :merchant:

He escaped soon after :russ:

gonna also take the time to watch Inuyashiki, since I never bothered and the dude in that vid looks batshyt insane.

Its been entirely too slow a season for me. But I've enjoyed the shyt out of this arc of Railgun

yup. He punched the world noble and the whole of the internet was like :gladbron::gladbron::gladbron::gladbron::gladbron::gladbron: as if it was the greatest moment in media history. 500 reply theads everywhere. Gifs and all.

Me: :francis:

I never watched it again after that ep.
lol, yeah that moment was overrated. Everybody and their moms knew Luffy was gonna punch one of them the second that he got a reason to. Kinda crazy though that you dropped it before the series reached the time skip but it is what it is.
