Hajime No Ippo is the GOAT, but have you checked out Major (the original series) yet? I think it stands toe to toe with Hajime.
Major is fire.

Honestly, Sports anime is underrated as hell across the board. Even Eyeshield 21 is hype.

When its not being :mjpls:

There were no boring fights in Baki season 2. Everyone got a chance to show off their style and had a backstory that sold their reason for wanting to win the tournament. Even the most arrogant ones would hit a wall and show their opponents respect for pushing them to a limit.

I liked how a lot of the early-mid matches would put opposite styles against each other. Disciplined boxer versus freestyling street thug. Karate master versus a guy that punches hard. Steroid abusing hulk versus a textbook old dude. Somewhere in the middle they'd have to adapt their style in order to make a comeback. And even if it didn't work, still show respect to the person that made them change their principles.

Thank god Yujiro didn't ruin the tournament by killing everyone before it ended...and he did try several times. I guess no one is meant to really touch him but at least it gives everyone a universal goal to keep fighting, keep training so that maybe one day they can scratch him.

I thought Dio was the GOAT scumbag but Yujiro is giving him competition now. So many great one liners

Animation sucks even for 2001 standards, but you need don't good animation to show compact fractures poking out of skin and joints flexing in ways they aren't supposed to. Also does cumulative damage well, if a fighter got messed up in a previous match they didn't get to eat a senzu bean to recover. Just had to manage that injury best they could and keep going or else forfeit, and the opponent would usually target that weakness knowing they were hurting.

2nd season gets a 9/10. Really good. Even the ugly OP grew on me
