Like Don't Ask Don't Tell and Healthcare?

:aicmon:

What do people showing up for local elections have to do with federal drug laws?

The three strikes law is something notorious in California. Sentencing laws are almost entirely a state concept. What in the world are you talking about? Have we not pointed out how the discrepancy has been reduced under Obama and can apply retroactively? That Healthcare and DADT ish is just being purposefully obtuse.

You keep shifting the argument to whatever position that allows you to take a rhetorical bullet for the president and his apathy toward the most commited part of his base...
No, there is no argument. You don't have one. You sound like that parody post on SOHH after Obama got elected and that dude was like "Obama got to do something about all this got damn heat." I argue for a legitimate proposition.

You sayin "people can point to problems but have no idea how to fix them" is a cop out...Why do you think we have leadership and elected officials?

You seem to want to hold Coli posters to a higher standard than this nations leadership...
Nope, I want to hold Coli leaders to common sense. The issue of immigration was monumental, the gay rights movement is largely coherent, equality for women is something that has been advocated for for generations. All of these things resulted in sensible policy that their proponents constantly lobbied and complained for. We knew what these answers were, but they had not materialized into legislation. Now, tell me, what problem specifically do you see in the African-American community that you believe requires a legislative solution. One that is not intertwined with requisite changes within the community itself. A problem that can literally be resolved, that is plausible, by passing legislation. Go ahead.

Obama supported same-sex marriage, he didn't pass legislation. He left it up to the states and courts. He's supplied more money to HBCUs than any president, it's not his fault that the leadership at the top of HBCUs is horrible. He just opened up an office specifically geared towards African-American education. He put structural problems before the specific issues of ANY group. Aren't Latinos and Hispanics wondering why that Dream Act didn't happen in that first term?

I expect people to at least give me something that legislators can work with. So far I hear about the prison-industrial complex, and that's about it. That is legitimate.

I'm not even saying that he has failed completely and write him off because he still has another 4 years...

But I'm not gonna give him a pass that I wouldn't give to any other elected official just because he looks like me....

Maybe Black people just need better lobbyists....Because the unions, the gays and the latinos are gettin their wish lists filled
But they haven't.

Who ever said he was a civil rights leader? You act like he ran on a platform directed towards black people.

and the name calling is still bullshyt.
One of the talking points formulated by Obama's apologists in the media is the notion that Obama is not the president of black America. They argue he is the president of the United States of America. This pathetically feeble argument exists for the sole purpose of deflecting legitimate criticism of Obama's failure to meet the needs of the black community.

The fact of the matter is that Obama is the president of African Americans, just as he is the president of white Americans. It takes a shocking display of intellectual dishonesty to suddenly release Obama of any responsibility for black America, especially when previous presidents have always been held responsible for their treatment of the black community.

This is from a white conservative journalist..Funny how even some of "them" get it when "we" don't...

We always get the leadership we deserve.....

Serious question for you guys, is there a black community in 2012? Do enough black people have enough unity of interest, beliefs, experience to constitute what we'd commonly refer to as a community.

A breh pointed out maybe blacks just need better lobbyist, thats a great point. But why dont blacks have that when gays, jews, and latinos do? Is there a "black agenda" that is wide reaching, and has significant support?

Defining black people by their blackness, is that going to be a workable thing going forward that will produce results?

Im not releasing him of any responsibility. His argument was that Obama didn't have the leadership of other civil rights leaders. I said that Obama is not a civil rights leader.

We don't need to administer modern slavery while having this discussion... We can discuss the glorification of drug culture with our brothers on Capitol Hill just as well as we can with them locked in cages...One thing has nothing to do with the other...

Well one causes the other, people in jail are not slaves, they willingly engaged in criminal behavior and they did it selfishly by putting their wants above the needs of the black community

If we discussed the culture and start changing it, the prison industrial complex would crumble, the culture that creates weak minded black men is the foundation of the so called prison industrial complex, so it is connected, the lack of proper black culture causes negroes in jail

I'm not against prison reform or judicial reform but I'm not for having bummy individuals ruining black neighborhoods and promoting habits and cultures that are detrimental to the black race

We need a plan to send them back to Africa or a serious cultural adjustment

Too much infighting about what's best for us. Hard to get us together to have a serious discussion of ideas. Lots of fingerpointing and name calling. Plagued by hatred.

How is it harsh when the third offense has to be an extreme offense? How about the fact that it may apply retroactively and a lot of people will now be able to challenge the sentences? How about voting in state and local elections see how the Democrat party is about to have a supermajority in California and that's the best way to get this stuff through? Now people in California have no excuse.

This is the problem people expect Obama to come in and automatically unravel generations of policy. I keep waiting on someone to point out the type of bill that they want and directed at what. No one does. The states have always been the laboratories of Democracy. Furthermore, Obama has a Republican House of Representatives. So you want him to expel political capital on losing propositions right now?

This is my point, people can point to problems but have no idea about how to go about fixing them. That's why these things should be dealt with at the state level first where people are closest to the problems. But cats never show up for those.

California is a start, but the damage has already been done fam. The thing is, this didnt start at the state level. It started at the top. Reagan started it, Clinton just worsened it. The problem is that most dont know the reasons why certain problems in our community exist. Government policies from decades ago contributed to black America's condition and it can HELP get us out of it. But proper education and economic development in our urban cities would be my recommendation. He could formulate some type of inner city entrepreneurship revitalization program/fund which would focus on creating new and nurture existing businesses with think tanks, seed monies for startups, providing tax breaks by staying within the communities and allowing people from its community to become not only workers, but stakeholders as well. The money would stay within the same community in which they live and work. Money from the fund could lure investors and industries to come back to the inner city and incentives would be given if done so.

I actually like Obama, I think he gives young black kids a role model and something to aspire to besides Drake or Lebron.

See I'm with you there brother... No we're having some real talk...I'm just puzzled why your ability for showing tough love and calling a spade a spade is so inconsistent....

Take that same critical thought and brutal honesty about a leader who's core constituency is suffering under an unemployment double the national average for whites and peaked to almost a 30 year high under his leadership...

Then add that to the the context of us having just gone through 4 national debates and an acceptance speech without having any of this mentioned ONCE....

Israel was talked about extensively but not one mention of Chicago (and the LEADER is from there)

You don't need a piece of legislation to see that's all types of fukked up....Unless you just want to put on the blinders and say "He's not the president of Black America" (not accusing you of this specifically)...

The reason I use vague terms is because I'm an accountant not a legislature...Perhaps your legal mind is forcing you to overlook the humanity in this situation...

So what Dr. West's Black Face comment was a "fukk you too nikka" to the president?... It still doesn't take away the truth in it...

Unemployment went up to 30 year highs for EVERYBODY. naturally those at the bottom's problems will be magnified.

Then add that to the the context of us having just gone through 4 national debates and an acceptance speech without having any of this mentioned ONCE....

Plenty of things were not mentioned, he didn't mention white people unemployment either

Why bring up his failures while trying to be reelected?

You need a piece of legislation to fix the problems. What should Obama propose?

The reason I use vague terms is because I'm an accountant not a legislature...Perhaps your legal mind is forcing you to overlook the humanity in this situation...
Obama isn't a legislature either

:manny:

Yes it does take away from the truth in his message, he used the term to get arttention, and it worked, but all the attention will be on what he called the president not his overall point.

But not at an equal rate depending on ethnicity and economic background...If you don't give a fukk about that and think they're just getting what they deserve, than cool....I don't feel that way...

I believe the punishment should fit the crime..And you can't justify or rationalize to me how a non violent drug offender deserves to serve 90% on a 10 year federal drug charge for giving another adult a substance they willingly chooses to put in their own body....

Does Cornell think Obama's policies exist in this vacuum where they can become law just on his say so?

If he really wants to do some good how about going out and encouraging people to vote in midterm elections so Obama and other democrat presidents can have some power to actually do something. You cant do much when one portion of congress has made it there mission to block everything you want to do, and they are the majority.

I'm always up for an objective, provocative discussion of Barack Obama; I'm not up for hearing Cornel West's initiating nor mediating such a discussion. This nikka is an integrity-less goof, period. Tell that fukk nikka to cut a little off the top, get another grad student pregnant, and publish some scholarship of actual worth to try and blunt his complete sacrifice of AFAM studies at the altar of his insecurity and ego.

I'd smack this nikka in his fukking face in a one-on-one meeting. He disgusts me.
