I think you can see his skill set isn't that of an impact player, he gets little separation and he doesn't have much speed at all, he doesn't out jump anyone for a football ever

If anything his skill set has shown him tobe a possession WR and a good blocker, that is the bottom line on him at this point. Hopefully he gets back to practicing soon because that's adore question mark with him too

Also he had 4 tds but only 3 came from Alex, e other one came from David Akers on a fake fg, so I don't even count that one

Blocking is an underrated skill, oddly enough Crabs is one of the best blocking receivers in the NFL. I think he is more than a possession receiver, and his lack of separation is due to lackadaisical route running. If he can tighten up those, he already has pretty good hands, he'd be a much better receiver.

From Matt Barrows

If the cameras had been rolling, it would have made SportsCenter and gotten a billion hits on YouTube. The 49ers ended their twilight practice Saturday with a two-minute drive for a field goal. The guy who lined up to attempt that field goal was none other than Jim Harbaugh. But Harbaugh just didn’t pantomime kicking the game winner. He called for a fake. As he ran past the holder -- assistant special teams coach Tracy Smith -- Smith flipped him the ball. It was a little out of reach, but Harbaugh still managed to gather it in. But when he went to cut up the field, he went down – face first – in a heap and lay there for a few seconds. The players, of course, thought it was the most hilarious thing they’d ever seen. So did a group of VIPs in the nearby bleachers. Harbaugh got to his feet and good naturedly ended practice a half hour early. The 49ers have a day off Sunday.

I don't see how he is much more than a possession guy. Hell, Keyshawn was considered a possession guy and he produced much more than CrabTHREE does.

He is not a big impact player, he isn't a #1 WR that is for damn sure.

The more and more he sits out, the more Alex develops chemistry with Manningham, Moss and Williams. I hope Crabthree becomes the guy we're paying him to be and he stays here for years, but I just don't see nay of that happening.

He just isn't that talented. He probably is just another case of the stud college WR not being as great because there is no press coverage in college and he played in an air it out system.

We're going to have to pay more important people in 2013, i`d hate to see us waste any dough on CrabTHREE if he doesn't have a monster year.

Bowman's contract is up and he has to be our #1 priority. Along with getting Goldson a deal.

Honestly, if Crabs gives us 900 yds and 7+ TD's this season, we keep him at a reduced contract, if not then such is life, I can't think of any WRs whose contracts are up this next offseason that are worth getting and we passed on any potential gamebreaking receivers this previous draft and next years class the rather weak.

That's my whole point, if he does the same average performance as usual, only way we should keep him is on a nice discount. And the problem is, I don't see him as a dude willing to take a cut in pay, just not happening.

I hope by this time next year Jenkins is proving to be a growing threat and Manningham is settling in nicely.

I just really don't want us to spend any money on CrabTHREE with what he is bringing to the table right now, way too many other important people need to be paid.

Goldson & Bowman are a must.

Perhaps, but I'm not that high on Jenkins, maybe the front office sees something that I don't but I thought we reached way too far for him, I don't think he will make any impact for at least 2 years and even then I don't see him as anything more than a slot receiver maybe a #2. I could be wrong, but there were better receivers available, imo. Even if they were somewhat one dimensional.

Anyone else been reading the reports on Kaepernick not doing much in practice.

Seems like he is just constantly tucking and running with it, can't find receivers.

I think we really know nothing of him yet, so you can't judge him yet. I know this much though, CrabTHREE been a disappointment so far, Jenkins is unknown there is hope for him, while the others on his last chance.

I`m not crazy over Jenkins, but this is a guy Harbaugh and McCloughan wanted pretty badly it seems. And so far they have shown to be decent judges of talent, this is who they drafted last year

Aldon Smith 1st
Chris Culliver 3rd
Kendall Hunter 4th
Bruce Miller 7th

All of them dudes contributed in a big way in 2011, and look to be good future prospects

not surprised to hear that. after all, he's practicing against the best D in the league.

it'll be interesting to see how Kapo looks on friday.
