Curious to know for those who have experience in Africa think about this? Have read articles before stating property rights ( or the lack thereof ) is a big issue and those coming from abroad with mature property right institutions may encounter problems

Property Rights and African Poverty

Africa is not doomed to poverty, but it must improve its property rights institutions.

The quest for secure property rights in Africa

Handing out title deeds is not enough

Will look into this :banderas:
Do that there’s a channel called Ken’s Money Matters It’s Kenya focused but as you know most Kenyan banks are all over the region.

The reason why the shilling is so cheap is because they don’t have much of the hard currency to buy shyt they need abroad so throw some coins into the bank.

I forgot what they called what we call in the states a Money market accouht but the difference between that and savings account is that you can only do a few non penalty withdrawals a month or even a quarter go to all the banks and see which one gives you the best deal

Do the same in Canada call around and see which one gives you the best interest rate on your money in Canada.

Depending on how much you trust your wife you could give her some racks to hold in her account and if something goes wrong there’s her settlement so she’s not on her ass if one of you decides to bush the other.

I could just not be in the right environments but I don’t hear about brothers with that type of ambition… “let’s build X industry. This country has X resources. We can make connections with X politicians for this deal”

people try but the business environment is very harsh and unforgiving.

Poor workmanship is still poor workmanship regardless of where it is in the world. Nothing is built/made to last anymore its built/made to be replaced.
True these 3d printed houses are the worst. The main thing to worry about is the pipes obviously you don’t want lead but copper is better than cheap PVC pipes. You’d want a hot water tank preferably with a line to the sink. Then you’d prefer gas lines if they have them sidewalks. a good grid and non suicide showerheads

Some of this depends on the area that you live in

Went to the dentist just to check out prices

700k for a crown
Crazy
That’s 189 USD. I don’t know if that’s good or bad but I do know in Nai I got me and my girl and several of her cousins cleaning done for 40 bucks.

I’d prefer if it weren’t near to the slaughter house but it was ok. The dentist did a good job and thats ridiculously cheap by US standards.

Living in a 4bdrm house paying 300 cdn a month.

Only thing expensive is internet as it's around 60 for unlimited internet

Phone paying 6 a month
Buy fruits and veggies from the market but I got a jackfruit and avocado tree in my backyard

Those monkeys are a$$holes. I was in Kenya for 3 months. They would come around and steal our food.
:skip:
Come to find out, baboons would eat them. We didn't have baboons in out camp though. We saw them half a mile out everyday though. I guess the locals kept them out our camp.
:ohhh:

If you're moving to another country --like one in Africa-- then you better be ready to build and not just "get a job".
There’s really no local jobs other than engineering or medical ones and those don’t pay enough to be worth it. Doctor’s are striking in Kenya again.

I'd say it's upper middle class.

It's in Entebbe so it's very laid back, barely any bodas and I'm like ten min drive from the state house. Alot of military and government officials live near me. Plus a bunch of mzungus

Honestly I don't see cops, don't even see people's phone being snatched like in Kampala

I'm near the main road so I can get everything I want

Like this is a five main walk

Only negative is that I'm near a church and they use a megaphone daily even at 5am

You could’ve stopped at Mzungus. Mzungus generally live in weathy areas no Bodas and no Matatus means high end.

Not American don't live in America. I know plumbers plasters paint & decorators and they all hate working on new builds when have to fix/replace things in them. My friend who is a plumber got called out to fix a leak in a new build bathroom and what would usually take a couple of hours. They had to rip out the whole bathroom just so they could get to the leak.
They had to the same thing to my kitchen when the pipes got stopped up.

Everytime i see a complaint about a new build I think of this sketch from 2001.
