Funny thing is, people used to say the same thing about jazz.

Here we are many decades later making the same racist arguments against our own people.

Eh. We get it and just don't agree with your sanctimonious stance. Again, the streets are realer than real, music got little to do with what kids in Baltimore and Newark are exposed to.

Y'all nikkas act like 60's/70's New York, Newark, Chicago, Baltimore, and St. Louis didn't exist. Dudes listening to Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield while doing the same 'ish they doing now.

You are so unaware that its not funny. Its "just entertainment" rite? Look deeper than the surface. Its about the continued demonization of the black race. They've been doing it for 100's of years except now they have US demonizing ourselves. We call OURSELVES ******s, thugs and savages. Think about it and get back with me. Its faaaar from "just entertainment". Its a weapon of white supremacy. Go read on "media propaganda"

Again, these kids (as most kids) are much more effected by what's around them. There are so many things missing from their lives, you really believe that a bunch of rap songs are influencing them to act as they do?

I've never, ever, heard a song that even comes close to describing what a lot of these kids are exposed to...NEVER (and never will).

Keep saying it, streets are realer than real.

It will help by exposing them to much more than the limited life that living on the street provides.

Most of them dream what the rappers live which is being rich, all while they are living poor so there is nothing wrong with making them dream about improving their lives and possibly following through which is has much more of a chance of happening than just rapping and hoping you become rich off of that alone or getting rich off of selling drugs. :dead:

Back in the 90s even gangsta rappers spit some conscious things sometimes.

Yep. It's actually in line with some pretty standard white supremacist logic.

Forget about institutional racism, redlining, reverse redlining, white flight, urban decay, the removal of viable economic engine, the systematic and purposeful destruction of self-esteem and self-possession, the flooding of your neighborhoods with highly addictive drugs, the neglect and lack of concern, etc.

It's this MUSIC that's causing these ******s to run around acting like crazy animals.

Or as M-1 said:

Dead Prez said:
One thing bout music when it hits you feel no pain
White folks say it controls your brain, I know better than that, that's game

I'll even quote Em:

Eminem said:
They say music can alter moods and talk to you
Well, can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can, and the next time you assault a dude
Just tell the judge it was my fault, and I'll get sued

Agreed. Which is why it's critical for them to have positive influences in and around their lives, neighborhoods, schools, and so on. Their influences are coming from the neighborhood street cat, drug dealer, and goon, not from Lil Wayne.

I'll keep saying it. Boys, especially from say 11-15, are influenced by the people who are consistently in their lives. They look up to older cats who take the time to school them, whether it be positive or negative.

The dude in the neighborhood who takes the time to connect with a kid will always be cooler than any rapper. :yeshrug:

Maybe in your generation since you're an 80s baby , but molly & lean is more accepted in mine , almost every time I hit a party up I'm offered either of the two & I'm from NYC a couple years ago nikkas would have looks at you crazy for mentioning those substances now it's the norm .

ehh. thats kinda brings me to my next point.

those guys i mentioned like wayne & 2chainz werent promoting drug usage back then. meanwhile, there were cooler rappers like BG from wayne's own crew that never hid his habits. but still, nobody was trying to get their nose dirty like BG.

this stuff now is a culmination of alot of things. its not A & B like OP is saying.

rappers are not nearly as influential as people seem to think.

Ok, so we 'gon act like this isn't one of the highest selling albums of all time?

Dr.DreTheChronic.jpg

We acting like Eazy-E, Bone, Scarface, and them grimy ass NY rappers weren't around in the nineties promoting the same...exact...shyt?

the chronic is NOT one of the biggest selling albums of all-time, but thats besides the point.

youre just talking about marijuana breh. weed aint chit.

only exception is when the bone's made the first ectasy song. and even then, bizzy was telling people not to pop pills just a few months before that on "fried day".

Yea but having good rap for them to listen to and not just street shyt helps regardless. :sas2:

Unless you can tell me the benefit of only street rap and barely any good rap being heard by the masses. :sas1:

So you just named a whole list of things that may contribute to our problems. You're acknowledging that it isn't just one thing responsible.

So why are you separating music from that list and then dismissing it like it has no influence?

J. Cole, Jay Electronica, Joey Bada$$, Brother Ali, Common, OG Maco, and quite a few others. :yeshrug:
Its not an entirely lost cause, the music is there.

these guys arent cool. except joey badass may be cool for his crowd. i'll give you that.

most of these names dont make popular music either.

i never heard an og maco song so im not talking about him. honestly, i only know his name from this board and assumed he was a trap rapper thats prolly down with gucci.

@PhonZhi look at the past BET awards when they didn't even nominate J Cole for having a dope album that went platinum. It's like they rather push negative rappers that sell less for a more sinister motive.

cole was indeed nominated for that dry ass album.

so was common & kendrick.

and the other nominees were fairies. drake, big sean and some other cake nicca.

they nominated common and i didnt even know he still rapped.

Is the wartime tactic known as "media propaganda" a conspiracy theory/myth to you?

These black men you vilify have used music as a tool to ascend income classes due to a lack of options/knowledge.

They are making money legally and giving consumers what they want.

Pressed. You talking some "good" rap, as if what you consider "good" has any meaning to the larger conversation. :deadrose:

Put it this way. I coach kids.

Future, Drake, and Lil Wayne could show up to one of my workouts with 15 hos and my kids would be like, "yo man, y'all gotta get off the court until we done."

I can never truly say it has no influence, but it ain't the catalyst for what's going on in these streets. I notice a lot of grown black folks tend to worship celebrities and it becomes easy for them to blur the lines between entertainment and influence. The reality is...well, I'll use a quote...

:salute: to my dude @Basaglia for this greatness:

Kids listen to and emulate the people who are consistently involved in their lives.
