:comeon: the dude pretty much threw his reputation in Hollywood to the bushes by being outspoken and saying what he truly believed in, no matter what. Spike Lee is many things, but a coward isn't one of them

Yea he wasnt afraid to make black women look like whores in shes gotta have it.

the Jews don't complain about holocaust movies because every holocaust movie as far as I know was ultra somber/serious and were made by a Jewish director. I can't really think of many :krs: moments in Schindler's List and the Pianist. actually come to think of it, the one holocaust movie where people actually DID complain was Life is Beautiful, because they felt like it treated the Holocaust too lightly, go figure...

I liked Django but, you can't really compare shyt like Inglorious Basterds to it. the comparison would make more sense if Django was a Civil War movie showing black soldiers killing the confederates.

but if Tarantino made a spaghetti western set in the actual concentration camps, there would be controversy. if Tarantino showed a scene where Jews were in a gas chamber while some 70's pop song plays in the background, best believe Jews would have a problem with it. also, Scorcese was attached to direct Schindler's List, but Spielberg ended up convincing him to let him do it since he felt like it needed a Jewish director. if a non-Jew ended up directing a holocaust movie I'm sure you'd hear many Jews complaining

Your missing the point with all this anger.

Name a big budget movie that cast black people in any capacity.

Name a movie in which a black male was depicted as strong and fighting for what he believes in.

Name a movie with a black couple that doesn't have any baby mommas, drug sales, drug use ect.

Name a movie when a black dude got to kill a house full of black folks and then style on them on the way out the door.

Name a movie when a black couple got to ride off into the sunset.

Sure there are some legitimate gripes that you can make about the movie. But all this "white overloads calling you nikka" stuff is pure emotional sensationalism, and does nothing to help the plight of black people in or outside the film business.

i dont care about him using the word nikka that much

this my gripe...OTHER RACES DO NOT fukk WIT YOU LIKE DAT

we are the only people who make excuses on behalf of other races who can care less about you

like i said man fukk QT he not slick...what make you think out of all the shyt America has/is pullin on us what make you think this movie doesnt have an agenda

when we look back 20-30 years from now our kids/grandkids are not gonna have a true depiction of slavery

there are goin to have DJANGO UNCHAINED DIRECTED BY QUENTIN TARANTIO(WHITEMAN) LEORNARDO WINS AN AWARD(WHITEMAN)

BUT WAIT....THE WORST CHARACTER AND MAIN ENEMY WAS SAM JACKSON(BLACK MAN)

sorry but that shyt plays wit my mind

TYRONE GA!
I'm not defending or attacking anyone. But if spike cared about black people so much, he wouldn't shyt on one of the only big budget blockbusters to cast black folks as major characters, especially without even seeing the movie. There are black careers and families tied to the success of this movie, by discrediting this movie he is hurting them not QT.

Let's not even get into Spike shyttin on Tyler Perry (whose works I don't always care for, but he has his audience and has a message).

Point being, while I can't shyt on Spike out of principle, he does need to come down off his black high horse man. And yeah, I don't owe him shyt, but I do and will respect what he has done for black cinema.

It's crazy to me that people shyt on Spike for having a problem with a movie that treats slavery like a joke when NOBODY in Hollywood would even ALLOW for a movie that treated the Holocaust as anything less than the worst tragedy in the history of life.

Behind You
Spike Lee has no room to talk after making the universally offensive piece of shyt movie She Hate Me and building a career of films that are at the very least peppered with sexist depictions of women and at the very most outright misogynistic. He seems to have no problem taking time out of his side career as "defender of the black race in movies" to create myriad examples of demeaning black women in his movies.
Plus he's a preachy asshat who has only made one enjoyable feature film in the last decade (Inside Man). He should stick to doing documentaries and stop being a crab.

List of Holocaust films - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A list of movies dealing with the holocaust. There is everything from love stories, to action flick, to comedies and the directors are not always Jewish.

We will never have a list of anything pertaining to our stories if we bash and complain about each one.

:ehh: well damn, I need to step my cinema game up because I've never heard of most of these

but my bigger point is that we shouldn't act like black folks are the only ones who get ultra sensitive when it comes to cinematic portrayals of them

you had Jews complaining about the Passion of the Christ before watching it. You had Christians who complained about the Last Temptation of Christ before watching it. You have Italians who complain about mob movies, etc.

knowing the history of film, and the way black people were portrayed in movies like Birth of a Nation, Gone with the Wind, etc., black people have every right to be extra suspicious and skeptical when it comes to films depicting them

as for Django, I enjoyed it, found it very entertaining. but that's it, I thought it was entertaining. I didn't think it was some thought-provoking examination on race relations that some people seem to think.

Your right other races don't fukk with us like that. So why is it when we get a moment where other races MIGHT fukk with us(none of us are in QT's head to know how he really feels) we tear it down. If there was a director out there that wanted to make a good movie for us, he won't do it cause we will just complain about it and call him a racist white overlord.

Django unchained is a much more real depiction of slavery than a lot of kids are taught in school. Reading my daughters history books you would think slavery was all peaches and happiness. Not to say that the movie should be used as a true representation of slavery, but if you wanna complain about the depiction of slavery there are plenty more inaccurate, damaging depictions to address than django.

Where did the movie django treat slavery as a joke? Yes there were funny moments in the film, but slavery was treated very seriously.

And there have been plenty of movies that deal with the holocaust AND have comedic moments.

As for spike Lee. The story of Malcom x is a very serious and tragic one. Yet his movie had plenty of funny moments. Was he disrespecting Malcom X's legacy?

Spike's portrayal of women is definitely his biggest weakness. still, I don't see how that makes him a coward. just makes him a dude who doesn't seem to understand women :manny:

call him misguided, a loud mouth, whatever. but I refuse to call a black man who's pretty much sacrificed his reputation in Hollywood to speak up on issues affecting his people, a coward

People need to get a grip here. Spike Lee didn't chastise anyone for watching the film nor did he suggest people shouldn't watch the film. He finds it disrespectful so he rather not watch it. So what.

I don't want to see a movie written by a self-absorb, coke head, white dude using slavery as a vehicle for his next revenge blood-bath film. It's not because he's white or that he has a predilection for using the N-word. It's because Tarantino won't try to delve into the complexities of slavery nor does he care. He just will use anything to bring attention to himself and the Hollywood machine loves him. Slavery was more than slave owners saying the N-word every second like Tarantino might think and unless he wants to be serious and actually paint the picture of slave life, I'll wait for Kill Bill 3.

I just rather not see the film but if someone does want to watch it that's fine. That's the great part about being human. We are different. So it doesn't matter what Spike has said or the films he has done in the past it's his personal opinion so let the man live.

I'm not talking about comedic moments in a movie; pretty much all movies have that. I'm talking about the overall tone of films. Django Unchained was not a serious movie.

You think somebody's going to allow for a Holocaust western to come out next year? No. And you wouldn't defend that shyt either. But if it has to do with Black people, there will of course be people like you on it like white on rice ready to defend.
