All I say is whether anyone likes this movie or not..im glad its getting people to wanna research and have discussions about slavery...like I said I dont even think a movie REALLY dipicting what went on with slavery would even make it on screen..shyt would be like a horror film...

What Spike did to make the movie is not supernatural. Again, why is there no Nat Turner movie? Simple question for the simple-minded.

Spike's portrayal of women is definitely his biggest weakness. still, I don't see how that makes him a coward. just makes him a dude who doesn't seem to understand women

It's a bit ironic that people talk about 'She's Gotta Have It' is about a woman that whores around but I thought that he flipped the typical love movie (by 80's standards) script on it's head by making the woman the man and going through the advantages and disadvantages of gender roles and that lifestyle. The concept was very original at that point and few movies have handled it as organically or realistically as that movie. Dude was years ahead of his time with that one.

Anyhow, I disagreen with Spike and his feeling toward Django but the authors premise is flawed. I respect and support Spike Lee to this day but it doesn't mean shunning Tarantino who has not only helped shape the careers of quite a few Black Actors, has made RZA a household name in cinematic orchestration, and could be the director that gets DiCaprio an Oscar. Supporting one does not exclude from the other. We need to get together on some issues and stop being monolithic on others. But the one thing I can say is that this back and forth between the two has made for some healthy discussions.
