The Sopranos definitely ushered in a new golden age for hour long dramas, no question about it. Since then you really saw television becoming more and more "cinematic".

But this era is weak when it comes to comedies. :camby:The most popular comedies of today wouldn't even RANK next to some of the shyt that was bein put out from the 50's-90's. Just too many classics.

Plus there's not enough wholesome family entertainment. Like try and name one show from today that could fukk with The Wonder Years. Not happening. :camby:

Um no...this is the Golden Age of CABLE....but nothing touches the run of shows in the mid-50's and from about '88-'98 too many sitcoms that killed the game. Too many games shows, tropes, themes, and skeletons for the shows we enjoy today were made in these 2 eras.

However, this is the best CABLE TV has ever been outside of the run of Nicktoons/Snick in the early 90's.

Agreed. And the production level and overall STYLE on some of these shows like Game of Thrones and Hannibal is just fukking nuts how they pull it off on a week to week basis.

There are so many dope shows that I'm currently following, and I discover new ones from Britain or obscure networks every other day. It's a glorious problem to have

I read the other day they shoot "Hannibal" eps in 8 days. It's crazy when you think about it.

Its completely relevant, and the exact reason why you couldn't list 5 free services as good as paid ones

It's 2014 man, all that shyt is free. Let's keep it all the way real here. Unless you think by paying for the service you somehow legitimized what it offers.

As far as the thread....it is the Golden Age of TV and I guarantee I'm older than 95% of this board.

People are talking about sitcoms and cartoons....and that's cool....but neither of those require the level of story telling found in "The Wire" or "Sopranos". So yeah, sitcoms/cartoons might have been better in the past, but the quality of TV in general was never hinged on either of those. TV wasn't taken seriously prior to the last 15 years or so....nowadays you have respected actors seeking parts on cable dramas....you have respected directors wanting to be involved....whether or not cartoons or sitcoms are shyt right now doesn't even enter into the equation for them, nor should it.

I credit Oz with that. Not saying Oz is better than or more popular than the Sopranos but I think the success, and critical acclaim of that show ushered all this in.

The actor that plays Brody on Homeland called this the New Golden Age of Television at last year's Emmy's. Ever since he said that, it hasn't been hard to find a reason to agree.
