I think there was times that Alonzo legitimately liked or was impressed by Jake.

- The scene where he found out Jake was a good football player.
- The wolf howling scene.
- The scene where Jake jumped into action and took on two rapists and won the battle.

At the end of the day though, he had to do what he had to do to try to survive the situation he was in.

Roger: "One day this man walks out of his house to go to work. He sees this snail on his porch. So he picks it up and chucks it over his roof, into the back yard. Snail bounces off a rock, cracks its shell all to shyt and lands in the grass. Snail lies there dying."

Roger: "But it doesn't die. It eats some grass. Slowly heals. grows a new shell. And after a while it can crawl again. One day the snail up and heads back to the front of the house. Finally, after a year, the little guy crawls back on the porch. Right then, the man walks out to go to work and sees this snail again. So he says to it, "what the fukk's your problem?"

Roger: "Figure that joke out and you'll figure the streets out."





Jake is the snail. He comes to Alonzo and Alonzo tosses him to the Mexicans. He’s beat up, almost killed, but struggles to make it back to Zo’s house. When he shows up, Zo figured he’d be dead, but he wasn’t. Zo is shocked Jake is back on his step.

In the street, you better kill a dude and make sure he’s dead. Or he will spend all his life coming back for that revenge. Don’t forget and be surprised when he’s back on your step even a year later

Jake didn't report the scuffle in the alley with the bums, he did drugs, was the getaway driver to a public shootout, he helped in the killing of an unarmed man and then lied about it....the thing that really set him off was that alonzo tried to do away with him...not because he was a morally justified cop.....he was just as big as a scumbag as them all.
