S.M.B 4 EVER
Said it numerous times in other threads, movie wasn't as bad I thought it would be by all the hate it was getting. I'll rather support this then something that glorifies the stereotypes bringing our people down to the mainstream. Like the original poster said it showed a struggle between a father and a son learning to sacrifice their differences to work as one. It doesn’t get any better then that. I saw the movie at the theater but I am definitely supporting it as well buying the DVD. It’s a shame the only black movies that get supported are the slave movies and the stereotypical ones.

I didn't know After Earth was a book series, they didn't do good job explaining the world
but it was far from being the worst movie ever, it was on par with oblivion which was boring and a ridiculously stupid plot

Hancock got better reviews and was a hit while After Earth has the WORST percentage score of ANY Will smith movie, which is fukking ridiculous considering he has Wild Wild West on his resume...

Django was cool as a bit of historical fantasy but that's ALL it is, one white man's fantasy. Again, Will Smith had the opportunity to write, produce, and STAR alongside his Son in a movie that deals with positive father/son bonding and black excellence. He made the right move and critics shyt on him for it and of daring to not be in Cacintino's supposed "masterpiece". fukk that, Will Smith made a movie with themes of black PROGRESSION and heroism, and yet it was shyt on while stereotypical c00n garbage like The Butler gets a pass?:wtf:

You c00ns on the Coli truly dissapoint me:stopitslime:

Everybody shytting on this movie like it was the worst movie of the summer, I get back from Afghanistan and get to peep it and I see a film about a BLACK father teaching his son how to be a man and face adversity in the midst of a life threatening situation...:gladbron:

But nikkas on here would rather Will Smith had played a slave in Quentin Cacintino's Revenge Fantasy?

In After Earth Will Smith was a respected general, a hero, a BLACK man who was the awe and envy of every one around him, a faithful husband to his BLACK wife, a stern but loving father and a man willing to sacrifice his career in attempts to reconnect with his family...

And all anybody got out of all of this was some bullshyt scientologist conspiracy mumbo jumbo:wtf:

fukk is wrong with some of y'all nikkas:dahell:

I'm not saying the movie was a masterpiece, but this being the worst movie if the summer and some black spot on Will Smith's acting career is pure bullshyt. There's NOTHING in this movie worse than the abortion of a blockbuster known as Wild Wild West:scusthov: Or the disappointing cheesiness of Men In Black 2:thumbsdown: . Will Smith actually wrote this films story and produced it, and I have to take my hat off to him for putting his money, time, resources, and effort into giving us Black excellence in he form of cultured, heroic, determined, intelligent, BLACK protagonists. This was the FIRST film in the Science Fiction/Fantasy genre to star two African Americans, Father and Son, as well as written and produced by the movie's star. We NEED more positive depictions of African American father/ son relationships in mainstream cinema and who else besides the world's most famous and bankable movie star to help being that message to the forefront? The African American community at large should've supported this film, instead it got shyt on by the media and Cac critics. The same critics who loved seeing Will be half drunk and simping over a Cac cave bytch in Hancock:demonic:

:salute: To Will Smith the Gawd

I thought the same thing after I watched After Earth. Would have made a thread about it but, I decided not too. Plus you probably worded it better than I could have. Cacs gonna cac breh. White folk basically got upset that Will is using his celebrity to launch his son's career, so they panned the movie like it was the worst sh*t alive when in reality, the movie wasn't bad at all. Fukked up thing about it.....white actors have been helping their children's career for years. Maimee Gummer is Meryl Streep's daughter. She was in the Devil Wears Prada and Evening, along with her mother. Then she conveniently ended up with a lead role on CW show :demonic: Micheal Douglass is an older actor but, he got on off of connections too :comeon: His father was Kirk Douglass, one of the biggest fukking actors of the Golden age. Kate Hudson is Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's daughter :comeon: White people think they slick. You wouldn't even know that their parents were famous actors too, unless you researched it. But behind closed doors though, how much you want to bet their parents were calling in favors smh.

Like this dude right here...Jason Schwartzman....he's been in atleast 30 different films

jason_schwartzman_2941217.jpg

What you didn't know was that his mother was Adrian in "Rocky" and Connie Corleone in "The Godfather 1, 2 & 3". You think that didn't help his career behind the scenes :demonic:

I won't post all of them because I'm lazy but, read that list.

People getting mad at Will for putting on his son when half of Hollywood are children of famous actors :demonic:

The connections are there, bruh. And we all know Will has been getting into that crazy shyt over the years.
Ex-church member Marc Headley says Will Smith's latest contains language, concepts and imagery plucked directly from the L. Ron Hubbard playbook.
I grew up in Scientology and worked at their international Sea Organization headquarters for 15 years. In 2005, I managed a desperate escape, which only succeeded thanks to the local county authorities. I wrote about my experiences in my best-selling book, Blown For Good: Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology.

Who better, then, to investigate the whole Scientology debate surrounding After Earth, the new sci-fi movie from M. Night Shyamalan starring Will and Jaden Smith, than a former Scientologist -- one who's received counseling from Tom Cruise himself? I am in no way “glib” on the subject; I’ve done the research.

STORY: 'After Earth' as Scientology Propaganda: What Critics Are Saying

I saw the movie After Earth and took notes on any parallels or “coincidental” similarities to Scientology teachings. While most of the movie involves following Jaden Smith’s character as he faces off against apes, a large, angry bird and a leech, (none of which have much to do with Scientology -- besides maybe the leech), most of the Scientology influences play out in the film’s dialogue.

“Fear is a choice.”

Will Smith’s character, Cypher Raige, tells his son, Kitai: “Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Now do not misunderstand me: Danger is very real. But fear is a choice”

L. Ron Hubbard’s teachings insist that emotions and fear are triggers and are part of the reactive mind. Through Scientology, one is supposed to “rid oneself of your fears.”

“Be in the present moment.”

Through Scientology training, one learns how to be in “present time,” or PT as it is commonly referred to by insiders. In order to operate as a higher being and be in control over one’s environment, it is considered key that a person exist in present time and not react to the past.

“What do you touch, see, feel, smell?”

While undergoing certain types of Scientology counseling, you are asked to recall what you see, hear, touch and smell. This is part of putting yourself in the moment and observing the moment with “full perceptions.”

Besides the film's dialogue and its direct similarities to Scientology teachings, there are also some other clues in After Earth that cannot be ignored.

Volcanoes

The movie’s climax takes place on a volcano that could have been ripped right off the cover of Dianetics, the look is so similar. In Scientology, the volcano is a common thread through many different teachings. This image was used not only on the cover of Dianetics, but has also been used in many of Scientology’s TV ads over the years.

Then you have the intergalactic overlord Xenu who, in cahoots with the psychiatrists of the universe, imprisoned millions of souls, froze them and then dumped them into -- you guessed it -- Earth’s volcanoes. Of all the places in the galaxy! This is part of the upper-level teachings of Scientology that members only find out about after they’ve spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Scientology counseling.

Robotic Emotions

Will Smith’s character is pretty much devoid of all emotions for the entire movie. While this may be part of his character or something that was directed in the script, in Scientology, one goes through great amounts of training and counseling to control one’s emotions and “mis-emotion,” as described by Hubbard. Anyone who has done even the smallest amount of Scientology training will recall sitting and staring at a person for hours on end without being allowed to blink, smile or turn one’s head. Will Smith pretty much masters that for the entirety of this movie.

Few people know that Battlefield Earth, the film adaptation of Hubbard's novel produced by none other than famous Scientologist John Travolta, was meant to be a way to introduce Scientology to the masses. Even the story itself is a veiled reference to the story of Scientology versus the psychiatrists.

We all know how that turned out. Battlefield Earth is considered by many critics to be one of the worst films ever made. After watching After Earth, I would say that Battlefield Earth might have finally met its match.

Two Xenu thumbs down.
SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE SPECIFIC REFERENCES TO SCIENTOLOGY BELIEFS AND IT ISN'T SIMPLY COMMON SCI-FI THEMES, BROTHER!

AND YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT CYPHER RAIGE IS A TERRIBLE NAME THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN GIVEN TO SOME VANILLA MIDGET IN NXT, DUDE!

Percentages aren't as informative as averages, and even then they probably have to be weighted......but it doesn't matter, 5 > 3, but that's still out of 10...both movies got shyt on. Besides, if you still give two tenths of a fukk what the media thinks of anything pertaining to Black America.........I really don't know what else to tell you.

While I don't like WWW...........Men in Black II and Shark Tale were both the worst movies in his collection to me. Both FAR worse than WWW, and you could argue Seven Pounds from an ethical standpoint :manny:

Django was never advertised as anything but historical fantasy, it's a story set during the times of American slavery yes, but it was never intended to be some biographical tale of some real life hero. It's a story, as all movies are, but this one was original and not based on any prior work nor historical figure. White man or not, Django was dope and took no shots at us.

If After Earth has themes of BLACK progression and heroism, I'd like to hear them. Try not to spoil too much though, I plan on watching this once it hits redbox. I guess what I want to know is, if you substituted two white actors in the place of Will and Jayden, does the movie's central theme change? Did the movie make it CLEAR that it was an issue of BLACK progression and heroism?
