the fact remains that a good person wouldn't have killed all those people to save one life. That's about as far away from doing the greater good as one can get. A good person also wouldn't have looked her in the eyes after the fact and lied about what happened.

I don't really think there is any "greater good" in that situation. Kidnapping a young girl and prepping her for a surgery resulting in her death she didn't consciously agree to(although she likely would've), in an attempt to continue previously failed research, isn't much of a greater good. Joell murdering everyone in on it was just worse.

well which is the greater good one death that could potentially benefit mankind vs the death of many to save that one life?

so a good person would let an innocent child be killed without her knowledge??

seems like a hard choice... but you can't say he saved the world so he's good.. while leaving off the fact he led a child to her slaughter without her knowledge

There are no good guys and bad guys in that world, it's just your interests vs everyone else's interests. The surgery wasn't guaranteed to produce a cure, but the potential for a cure could save millions. The Fireflies also weren't guaranteed to use the cure in an altruistic way, but if the cure existed it would save lives one way or the other. Ellie's encounter with that pedo cat who had all of his friends killed by Joell was kinda key to me, because it showed that even though the "bad guys" were some dark disturbed cats, they saw Joell and Ellie in the same light.

The closest thing to good people you get is probably the crew at the dam, but under the circumstances of that world, you have to forego some of your humanity in order to survive...everyone in that world is a killer and no one is surviving in that world without it costing someone else along the way. No heroes...no villains...just survivors and bodies.

In that situation with those options yeah a good person would have let them have her because the bloodshed involved with saving her cost far more lives than letting them have her.

he was most definately a good guy. Dude tried to save his daughter but failed. he had to live with that for the rest of his life and that hurt him. He was with tess and stuck by her till the very end. ellie came in his life and even though they had a rocky start you cant blame him look at the world they lived in you cant trust anyone its every man for themselves. but yea he didnt even know ellie but went through hell and back for her. at the end the fireflies straight up grabbed her away from him without telling him anything and drugged her up and put her under the knife. was he suppose to just let that slide he didnt even know what was going on they didnt tell him shyt. he did the right thing 100% through. snapple facts.
