You know how many unsigned artists have had videos on MTV Jams & 106th & Park? :laff:

106 & Park have always featured videos form unsigned artists.

!

this was on 106 and Park, its only 4 minute filler.

He was blowing when Wayne was at his peak... Wiz didn't have any co-signers... Big Sean didn't have a Major Label backing him until last year... Jay-Z wouldn't even pick up Cole's phonecalls & Kendrick Lamar is fukking with Dr. Dre in 2012 who nobody cares about...

A lot of shyt is timing... Wayne pushed Drake to his fans at a time when he was getting a shytload of attention. Has Jay ever brought Cole out at a concert? Wiz had no co-signers & name one person who cares that Kendrick is co-signed by Dr. Dre...

Timing is why Wiz didn't blow when he was signed to Warner Bros. but took off on Atlantic. His sound was too fresh in 2006-2007, he was doing shyt that nikkaz are just now catching on too, dude was ahead of his time...

If Wayne would've signed Wiz, who already had Pittsburgh on lock & brought him out on stage in front of 10k fans every other night he would've blown sooner. Kanye didn't even fukk with Big Sean like that... No ID had faith in dude & signed him, Ye' didn't even shop that nikka before 2010...

A lot of truth right here. Timing is everything. Well, it's not just that, you have to be READY when the right time hits.

And yeah Wiz was ahead of his time. Been said this.

B.E.T. 106 & Park's Syahboy "Payday" Video - YouTube!

this was on 106 and Park

Exactly... & this is one of many... cats think getting a video on BET or MTV means something when it really doesn't. Hell, my friends had a song with Ray-J that was on 106th & Park a year & some change ago... no Major Label... doesn't mean shyt...

Fam... nowhere have I ever stated Drake didn't have push... Wayne pushed the shyt out of that nikka cuz he believed in him... just like Wayne pushed the shyt out of Boo & Gotti cuz he believed in them... one blew & the others didn't...

Drake just happened to catch on...

Ya'll cats don't see how some of these artists have the same push, same resources, same money behind them... some blow & some don't...

Diddy has every resource known to exist in the music industry & it still wasn't enough for people to care about Machine Gun Kelly... some nikkaz blow, others don't, that's my whole point but this whole conspiracy shyt is stupid...

I get that b. Not every person is talented to blow. What I'm saying is, comparing Drake to Cole, Wiz, Krit, Sean & K. Dot.......all of them are on the same level talent wise or close. They all were going to get noticed regardless. The argument is one of those muthafukkas got alot more help. :birdman:

Also, you know exactly what we mean saying he was on BET/MTV :birdman: We not talking about a one time premiere on BET uncut at 4:45am. We talking about constant rotation of a video from a mixtape. Something IMPOSSIBLE to do without having a record worked.

Drake also had Wayne pushing the Young Money album

Best I Ever Had
Successful
For My Town
Money to Blow
Every Girl
Bedrock

Drake had a much bigger head start than those other artists, the only comparison is timeframe

I'm not arguing he didn't have more help & there's a saying in the industry when a record has legs of its own & "Replacement Girl" had some momentum because it had Trey Songz on it. So when Trey Songz fans Google & Youtube Trey Songz name & see he has a song & video with some guy they've never heard of they're going to go listen & watch.

The shyt wasn't even in constant rotation on BET either... nikkaz talking like the shyt was #2 on 106th & Park. Drake had met Trey Songz, developed a relationship with him & paid him to feature on his song... this shyt is done so much in the industry. Drake didn't even blow off of this song & the song bricked cuz nobody cared about dude & Trey was still relatively new to cats.

He kept that relationship & in 2009 when he was blowing up & Trey Songz had a monster year they linked back up to give eachother more momentum.

The difference I'm tryna tell you between Drake & Cole/Kendrick/Sean, etc, is Drake had *VISIBILITY*, doesn't mean anyone had to like him.

Wayne brings Drake with him *EVERYWHERE* just like he brings all of YM with him but Drake happened to be the artist that stood out to people, mainly women... Jay-Z doesn't give a fukk about Cole... Ye' didn't give a fukk about Sean & none of these new generation fans care about Dr. Dre & even then when is Dre ever even out to push Kendrick?

J. Cole has complained time & time again about how he couldn't get Jay on the phone. Wayne keeps YM Artist visible... some caught on (Drake, Tyga) & some didn't (Mack Maine, Jae Mills, etc)...

And the reason it took Tyga this long to even get to level he's at is because dude finally smartened up & started making music for the clubs & women instead of the streets like Jae Mills & them other nikkaz do...

Drake could rap, could sing, was light-skinned & made music for women... shyt was damn near a no-brainer. Wiz Khalifa makes music for the women & clubs now... that nikka smartened the fukk up when he got his 2nd deal...

Think about it... of all the nikkaz you know personally that are rappers trying to make it how many of them make music for women? :whoo:

Exactly... Wayne was peaking in popularity & it benefited Drake Ten-Fold...

Drake caught the perfect storm to blow the way he did...

B.....thats what I've been trying to tell you :russ:

Regardless of whether you want to admit it, as a up & coming rapper, that's half the battle. Who has it easier, some random nikka from some random city begging for listens online or a kid who was on TV that people will listen to just to see if he's wack or not.

And what I'm telling you is a lot of nikkaz have visibility, it's nothing special. Any signed artist has visibility... Drake happened to have visibility without a Major... just like Jae Mills had visibility without a Major... both are signed to YM, one blew the other didn't...

We're not disagreeing on that, we're disagreeing on that being the SOLE reason he blew up...

The problem is nikkaz think Drake sat in an office one day & the industry told this nikka he was next. They didn't see all the meetings when people said no, all the "we'll call you", all the open mics that nikka had to go to, the times he got booed cuz nobody knew him & the times he got humiliated because he was recognized as Jimmy from Degrassi & not given a 2nd look, they don't see all the labels tell him he's a good songwriter but he's not marketable... they didn't see that shyt, they pretend it didn't exist... dude was not an overnight sensation, nobody ever is...

ok, some of yall just getting side-tracked. The threadstarter asked "Was Drake really signed before "So Far Gone"

The answer: yes, he was signed and pushed by Young Money Entertainment.
