I think ultimately, it'll be one of those things that has will have A LOT of appeal to foreigners and will take a very long time to grow on the locals.

Though the project wasn't made through transparent means, it's still, in the end, a very good looking statue. I mean, its dope as fukk. We got brehs here, and many others online, thinking of visiting Senegal purely off of the Statue. That's impressive in of itself. And Senegal has a lot more to offer.

Plus, it can bring a lot of revenue to the country's tourism industry and maybe help fund some needed projects.

And I thought Wade getting 35% of the profits was being blocked by Macky Sall's administration. Or has that been overturned?

OK you guys know the situation quite well I'm impressed.
3 points: People were initially against it because they said : we have other priorities and this is some freemason sheit. Looking at the bigger picture the statue is very impressive and can bring revenue stream.
Wade isnt getting no 35% (that was his plan though, one of the reasons people were also against it)
His son Karim Wade (THIEF) is in jail

Count me as one of them...got flight prices pulled up as I type.

The bottom line is that in 2014 there is virtually nothing that is built without global connections and questionable financing . We are heading towards an almost mono-culture w/ a few regional differences for better or worse.

Excellent thread OP.

Well damn...the Coli IS well-repped. @galsen you mind putting us on Dakar? What's the vibe like there?
You from Dakar breh:gladbron:
Yes brehs, I'm from Dakar. I even created a brand named kardastyle (dakar) and ironically to stay consistent with this thread the concept is `''Afreeka iz beautiful''. Got Akon and Youssou Ndour reppin the brand. www.kardastyle.com
Man you got the usual tourist ish, Pink lake, white sand beaches, sunny 360 days a year, Saly Portudal, google all that. But the party scene is crazy. In Route des Almadies you got all types of clubs, lounges, restaurants etc.. etc.. Downtown is downtown, Dakar people love shows from the big current senegalese artists (Waly Seck, Pape Diouf) but also legends like Youssou N'Dour. You got soccer with the national team coming back strong with young players after the era of El Hadj Diouf, Henri Camara, Fadiga and them...You also got wrestling with big champions like Modou Lo, Yekini, Balla Gaye. Dont get it twisted theres poverty but one thing i always noticed is no matter what, people enjoy life. Clubs are full, social celebrations packed everywhere...

Ask and i shall respond to any question.

To expand to Africa, we are SUFFERING from the bullshyt vision constantly presented in the media. I call it `Poverty-AIDS-War' and now we can add Ebola. This bullshyt vision prevent the continent of so many business opportunities and hurt tourism in such levels its unbelievable...

What are the job/career prospects like for people who would want to move from the US to Dakar?
Are there any business opportunities in the tech/IT sector?
What's a typical middle class life like?
Do you ever run into blacks from the states over there?
What's the pawg situation like over there?

I lived there for 3-4 years, my dad still lives there. I stayed at Liberte 6 extension not far from Machalla. I'm pretty sure you know. Dakar is truly a nice city, can't wait to go back there next year, I will apply for the citizenship too:youngsabo: Cela signifie que tu parles wolof and francais? Je pars prendre un plat de thiebou yap avec du bizzap ds une heure:whew::ohlawd:
