What are the job/career prospects like for people who would want to move from the US to Dakar?
Are there any business opportunities in the tech/IT sector?
What's a typical middle class life like?
Do you ever run into blacks from the states over there?
What's the pawg situation like over there?
IT sector is growing and if you have US experience, that would be greatly valued (even overhyped i guess, not my field tho)
Middle class life is getting actually better and better. It is now the norm for a young working guy (and i'm not talking upper echelon) to have a car, an appartment with a maid that cook cleans (really cheap).
Yes i do run into blacks from the states over there, i actually know some, and the crazy thing is they pass incognito (unless they speak of course with the accent and all). There is a big Nigerian community now and they work and leave without speaking a word of french.
PAWG situation? dont even get me started. Here's my answer...

I lived there for 3-4 years, my dad still lives there. I stayed at Liberte 6 extension not far from Machalla. I'm pretty sure you know. Dakar is truly a nice city, can't wait to go back there next year, I will apply for the citizenship too:youngsabo: Cela signifie que tu parles wolof and francais? Je pars prendre un plat de thiebou yap avec du bizzap ds une heure:whew::ohlawd:

Tallac, ouiiii je parle français (is your Tallac from Booba?) deggna wolof té mi haalata Pular so yeh i speak french, wolof and fulani. Of course i know Liberté 6 extension i hang out there sometimes and my sis went to school at Machalla.

One advice I can give: visit the country brehs. If I base on the black americans that came, all of them extended their stay and many decided to stay permanently.

To tell you the truth, it depends on the country. Moving to Guinea for example is different from Gabon, Chad, etc... Different currencies, different standards, cost of living, laws/customs. You will really have to pick a country or few, and just for it. Some cultures are very similar.

Yeah breh I know, and that's why hearing people say shyt like "we should move back to Africa" such an unattainable goal. It's a continent. A humongous one at that...and it's extremely ethnically diverse. Someone is gonna have to break the shyt down so us in the US can at least get some clue on what moving there would be like. It took me a while just to find the videos I put in the OP because we get so little positive information about Africa as it is. I mean it wasn't until bout 3 or so years ago that I learned that Africa actually had cities.

You need to understand something, breh, you might be able to get a great job, it won't be much compared to guys living in the US, but you will live like a king. If you make for example $3-4k/month in most African cities, you are straight, because most companies will pay your rent, will give you a car or a driver, a maid, etc.. so all your money will just chill in your bank account.

Yeah, I know about that. I actually got offered a job in Nairobi last year (paid US 14k/yr) but the lady told me I'd have housing, transportation, and a maid paid for by the company. At the time I was make like 135k in the US and had just bought a house and a condo and I was like :patrice:

I've made up my mind to leave though. I'll sell my properties, move over there with like 50k US, and trick off every dime I got on them big booty broads from the motherland :blessed:

Much respect breh. I guess my only question concerns safety. What should I be cautious about, outside of common sense stuff like pick pockets and not flossing in public?

And in fairness to Senegal, its one of the safest countries in the region, I believe.
To be honest I never had this type of problem. Obviously, like in most big cities, there are some parts you dont want to be walking around alone with jewellery or wealth signs at 3am in the morning. But most of the time and in most areas you'll be straight

Breh, I really wanna leave this shyt hole called America and return to the motherland, but if there's no pawgs out there then Senegal is not the country for me.

I guess I better get used to being oppressed in America :mjcry:

EDIT: After watching that YouTube clip I've changed my mind. I'm throwing my American citizenship in the bushes :whew:

@galsen what's the best way to find jobs in Senegal? In the US I pretty much use job boards like monster and careerbuilder. Anything similar in that country?

And I'd imagine it's all in French :mjcry:

One question I've always wondered about the pictures I see of Africa is the sky usually looks brown. It has me wondering if it's the camera throwing it off, cacs cacing to make Africa look bad, or if that's really how the sky looks out there.
it depends which part and countries. East African and Southern African(SA, Namibia, Mozambique, Southern half of Angola etc) cities tend to have a Mediterranean or California feel. N West Africa(Senegal, Mauritania, Chad, Mali Morrocco are very sunny and really warm also also. West African countries usually have a sub tropical weather. I think these are the places you are referring too because they usually have those gray skies like you talked about. Central African countries usually look like those England looking weather, but it actually feels nice and it doesn't snow nor gets cold.

Thats the best I could do.
